Universal will spend $120M on attractions

So true.

The two parks are in a symbiotic relationship to a degree. Especially when it comes to technology.

I suppose when it comes to technology you can make the argument that the two parks have a symbiotic relationship, but I think competitive may be the better word. For the most part though, Universal is dependent on Disney parks. Universal has been relatively unsuccessful at drawing crowds away from Disney, all they have (arguably) done, is help increase Orlando tourism. It seems however that Universal's attendance is relatively cyclical, typically based on whichever company has the latest blockbuster attraction. However, the same thing doesn't hold true for Disney. Their attendance has been steadily increasing the further removed we get from September 11th.

I had read recently, but can't remember the source, that Disney had set up long term budgets for their parks as well. If I recall, the number was in the $100 mil range for park improvements, but I do not remember of this figure included things like the new irrigation system in the Animal Kingdom, yearly maintenance and staffing or if it was all alocated to new rides or refurbs.

I agree Universal needed to spend some cash on their property and hopefully they will put it to good use. But, why does everyone think that $120 million is for the upkeep and then for like several attractions. They can't do everything at once, so who is to say that they won't have a large budget next year too? Hopefully they do, come on Universal show us another quality attraction we all know you're capable of! (something like spiderman preferably!)

$120 Million may be a lot, or it may not be a lot. Mission:Space cost Disney over $100 Million. But Universal is not Disney. I'm curious as to what they will actually do.
