Glad to see the competition is amping up. If Cars Land gets greenlit & announced for DHS, I, as a huge Disney fan, will still be more excited for these offerings from UNI & whatever else they build with that 850 mil!

Theme Park Wars are go for launch!

That's a huge amount of money, especially considering how smartly Universal spends when building attractions.

Uni is getting the idea of what needs to be done. Hopefully it will light a fire under TDO's @$$ to get some projects going.

I absolutely hope so. However, the last few times this has happened Disney's knee jerk reaction to competition gave us a rushed Hollywood Studios, majorly scaled down Animal Kingdom, and the promise of Avatarland. I hope this will yield a finished product more along the lines of new Fantasyland quality instead. Disney hasn't done so hot with reactionary plans.

Good for them.

Sorry, not to sound smarmy (and I have been holding my tongue about this for a while) BUT: how long has Universal been in Orlando and they're just now sinking money hand over fist into the parks? I am glad they are, and everything looks good but WDW has been kicking their butts for years until Harry Potter dropped into their laps.

I'm a huge fan of HP, both the books and the movies, and have yet to visit HP (but it looks amazing from everything I've seen and heard) but Universal as a whole just does nothing for me. I've been there a handful of times and never found myself enjoying the parks or finding much reason to ever go back. I do believe that a rising tide raises all boats BUT Universal is just now trying to beat Disney at their own game, and Disney has been doing it longer.

Even with Universal adding more hotels, etc. they still won't (imo) be able to get the same feeling that you get from staying on Disney property. I do think Epcot, DHS and AK need some attention after Fantasyland is in the can but let's be honest...outside of HP, does Universal have a lot to offer us Disney die-hards? I'll ride anything Disney has to offer several times over and never get tired of it, whereas I've done Universal and feel that that's good.

Basically, what I am trying to say is this: Universal is the Johnny-Come-Lately for trying the Resort thing in Orlando and Disney, despite it's flaws, is better at it. I'll climb off my soapbox now.

1. HP dropped into their laps!? They had to bite, scratch, and claw with JK Rowling to build WWoHP.

2. I don't think for a second that Uni is trying to beat Disney at anything. Granted they are both theme/amusement parks but personally I think that's where the similarities end. Uni is in the theme park business and Disney is in the memories business.

3. I say god for Uni for doing what they are and have been doing. They have a product now (Harry Potter) that they know is marketable on numerous levels and they are taking full advantage of it.

And you really shouldn't judge WWoHP without having been to it. The moment you walk under the arches any thought of Disney is gone from your brain. Sadly, when you walk back out it hits you how much worse off the rest of the park is.
