Universal to cutback entertainment offerings

Like Disney, Universal needs to make cutbacks during this recent tourism slump. Disney cutbacks include some reduced hours for shops and parks, allowing for actual additions to its entertainment lineup (think of the burst in characters recently and several new entertainment offerings), while Universal cuts its offerings in the park. No matter what you perceive to be worst, the truth is both resorts are seeing attendance declines.

According to screamscape, the following shows will be completely canceled or limited in their showings (seasonal shows).....Wild West at USF and Sinbad at IOA. However, cutbacks in entertainment continue to characters. The following characters at USF are being removed......Barney & Betty Rubble, Doc Brown and the Men In Black agents. IOA has removed the use of the following characters........Boris & Natasha, Green Goblin & Dr. Doom.

According to screamscape, an online petition to Universal has started to save the characters and shows at http://www.petitiononline.com/SaveUSF/petition.html. However, I don't think this will do anything. To date 250 people have signed.

I really hate to say but I can see why Universal made that decision to cut back on entertainment rather than the stores and attractions.

In the long run, Disney had more invested into its entertainment side than Universal does. The shows and characters at Uni are really not the memorable part, whereas those same things have a great deal to do with the Disney experience.

Sinbad is most likely being closed down to make modifications for Bill & Ted at HHN (I feel that place is more suited for the show). Wild Wild West is following the leads of its West Coast counterpart (unfortunately). The Rubbles I can understand dropping... as well as the two villians at IOA.

Doc Brown and the MIB Agents I have a problem with. Those three characters have some of the best guest interaction available in the park. I think they should have dropped Crash Bandicoot and the Great Fright Way show. Nobody would really miss them I think...

Oh well...

I can imagine the questions being dropped at IoA's Guest Service regarding Green Goblin... "But why you people dressed the Goblin in pink? Haven't you seen the movie??" I like the West Stunt show, though, it's always been one of my must-sees...

I personally can give up the agents (when I saw them, it was kinda weird) but I've never seen Doc, I wanna see him once before he goes.
