Universal is building a new park in Singapore for a new casino resort that is scheduled to open in 2010.

Universal Studios will have its largest theme park in Asia at Resorts World at Sentosa offering 22 attractions within seven themed worlds, of which 16 will be specially designed for Singapore.

It will be developed at the east side of the IR site, using the theme “Ride the movies” and the attractions will be comparable to those found in Universal Studios Orlando and Islands of Adventure.

There will be seven themed worlds within Universal Studios Singapore namely: Waterworld, Lost World, Egypt, Super Hero City, Back Lot-The Big Apple, Hollywood Boulevard and Cartoon Studios.

Key highlights include the all-new “Journey to Madagascar” attraction and the Dreamworks Digital Animation Studios which will showcase the cutting edge of movie-making and real-time animation.

Sounds like this could be a killer park. More proof that Universal can do amazing things... As long as some else builds it and operates it.

Very cool. I'm interested in seeing how that Madagascar ride turns out because it could work very well over here. That Dreamworks Digital Animation Studios attraction sounds pretty neat as well --- something like that or Special Effects Stages from USH would be great for the Herc & Xena building.

16 of the 22 attractions are going to be new, so the other 6 will come from here. ROTM, JPRA, Spidey, and Waterworld are pretty much confirmed through the article (because of the Waterworld, Lost World, Super Hero City, and Egypt lands)....I'm thinking Shrek 4-D and Jaws, E.T. Adventure, or The Simpsons will be the other two. I really can't wait to see their attraction lineup.

From the way they made the contract sound, it's going to be more like Port Aventura. It's a shame, because I get a feeling that this one is going to become the DisneySea of Universal Fandom.

I saw concept art of it on another website and it seems to be a run of the mill raft ride with AA's interlaced along the chute.

I'm excited about the prospects of this resort. I was already planning a trip to Asia and it looks like I now have to add Singapore to the list of countries I'll be visiting. Hopefully the Disney theme park discussions for Marina East will also come to fruition!

EDIT: add concept art

If it's half as good as Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges is, than it will still be one of the premier raft rides in the world.

That's a photoshopped picture of Bluto. Is that something someone started circulating around the web as a joke?

concept art is sometimes photoshoped of an existing ride anyway...

it might be exactly like blutos, but with madagascar because of licenses or something.. also maybe the attraction is so good, but not many people out there know of popeye and know of madagascar better...

as long as they dont cut budgets and mess up these attractions, this park might be better than japans... or at least equal.

Here's hoping that the park has custom versions of the attractions we know and love.

Although that picture alone dropped my expectations of the park quite a bit. If the photoshop is an accurate depiction, then the Madagascar attraction will be nothing more than a direct lift of Popeye and Bluto with new theming. It won't be something unique like a dark ride or heavily themed family coaster or anything like that.

Thank god they're at least copying a world class rapids ride and not a lame or average version.

The pics over at Screamscape have definitely piqued my interest in the park. On the surface, it doesn't look as cookie-cutter as I thought it would be.

Although, those giant glass-covered areas all over the park (and there are a TON of em) don't look very good. If they're there to protect visitors from the rain, then outdoor attractions will probably be shut down frequently.
