The Amex lounge in Universal Studios has been a great place for the family to relax in an air conditioned space and use super clean facilities. It's a hidden gem right behind the Shrek attraction. They also offer granola bars and small bags of chips at no cost. They also have gratuitous mini bottles of water for your consumption. During out last visit in early November, we signed in and we were asked for our park ticket in addition to our Amex card. That was the first time we were ever asked for our park ticket. We are Annual Pass Holders from Pennsylvania. The attendant checked our annual pass and informed us that we cannot use the Amex lounge any longer because we purchased our passes with a Visa card. But she said since we were APHs she would allow us to use the lounge one last time. That same day, the park opened the APH lounge along Hollywood Blvd. We were able to stop there later in the day, but they do not offer free water. It's sponsored by Coca Cola and they offer Coke products for purchase. They offer the same snacks as the Amex lounge for no charge.
I was a bit ed that Amex turned us away. Sure, we bought the tickets with Visa, but I probably spend over $1000 on food and other items on my Amex card during a trip to FL. As we sat in the Amex lounge, we witnessed several individuals turned away who did not buy their daily tickets with Amex. The attendant almost seemed to take joy in the action; very disturbing.
