Universal Refillable Cup vs Coke Freestyle Refillable Cup:

Someone said that they are discontinuing the Universal Refillable Cup in January? Is this true? Or can I still bring my refillable cup from home to get the cheap refills?

When I went in October they seemed to be phasing out the Universal Refillable Cups (which can be used day after day forever) in favor of the Coke Freestyle refillable cups (which are good for only the day of purchase).

Difference between Refillable Cup & Coke Freestyle Refillable Cup:

The new cups have some kind of chip in them at the bottom and once activated allow you to get the free refills. The older cups sadly will not be supported.

The older cups were working in late Oct. Since they don't have a chip in them you can keep bringing them back day after day and they will fill it for you if you go to the right concession stands. (Obviously won't work at the coke frestyle self serving automated machines).

The coke freestyle cups have a chip in them so you have to buy a new days worth each day. (although I believe the 2nd day is slightly cheaper). Also you cannot get refills on icees or slushes with the coke freestyle cups but you can with the older cup.

Obviously that is what the post was referring too. The freestyle machines. The dining plan at Universal is changing as well. So it's something to keep an eye on.

Universal had something special with the all you can eat plan back some years ago. Now the meal plan is garbage

Yeah, I remember that. I think they were losing money on that though. It was kind of annoying because the friends I was with at that time kept stopping to eat and pig out every hour and not ride anything.

That would be me lol. I think it was only $20 for the day I was eating everything and everywhere.

The refillable cups will not be usable after Jan. 1st. Although the rules were never explained well, they were supposed to be good only the day you bought them. They would put a sticker on it and check it before you got a refill. That fell by the wayside pretty quickly and the cups became $8.99 soda for life cups.

Now it's going to just be the RFID Coke Freestyle Cups. And Cabana Bay also has resort logoed and even seasonal RFID cups.

That why we can't have reasonably price food.

I just don't see the point, are all you people from villages that don't have food normally? Are you starving most of the year?

I don't get it. You're building a prison for yourself since I doubt you can do much in the way of physical activity.

If someone wants to eat all you can eat more power to them but I just think when you are at universal you are there for the rides so I would want to maximize my time riding things and eating all day would take time away from that.

But I am all about the rides other people may just go for the ambience and atmosphere.

EXCUSE YOU! I suggest you watch who you are talking to! I do not take negative assumptions to kindly! I am a PhD and very active and have plenty of money to do as I see fit. I suggest you learn manners and watch who you are talking to!

I think the DDP totally ruined the culinary experience at WDW- and with all the new , tasty things in UOR, I really hope the same thing doesn't happen. But, mostly, I'm not there to eat, IDK how people can get so full and walk around in the blinding heat (and I'm a Floridian). To each their own- whatever makes you happy on vacation, do it! just don't run me down in an ECV and I'm happy :D

I LOVE that CBBR has these cups AND special ones for Christmas!!! Wish the other resorts had them as well. It's like WDW circa 1995

I don't know if they will be changing it but I re-use my Freestyle cup all the time. Sometimes I activate it for the day ($6) if I'm spending the whole day there or will use it on shorter trips for the ($.99) refills at the counter. This to me has been the best of both worlds, I hope they don't end the single refills.

That's clever.

My problem with the Coke Freestyle refills is that I don't need to drink 6-10 giants cups of soda in a day at Universal. That's alot of sugar and calories. So I prefer the classic refill where I get maybe 3 cups in a day for $2.98.

Yeah, I usually only activate it for a the Freestyle machines if I'm spending the whole day and will also be sharing it. In that case it's worth it. I also many times will bring the cup and decide what I want to do once I get there, more often than not I end up using it just for water only. I love the freestyle machines for water, it's so quick and easy to fill up either the Freestyle cup or a water bottle and it's free!

I disagree. I have seen people not on th plan eat evrything in sight. But your right thr dining plan ruined quality food. Speaking of evc, it always makes me think of kendra from the cleveland show

Uh, theme parks are exhausting. You're exerting a lot of energy when you're there. People eat food to regain energy.

Walking around a few miles with breaks in between is exhausting? If your 4 or 94 but not so much for others.
In 90 degree weather? Surrounded by 30,000 people? When you say "breaks", are you referring to leaning on the handrails as you wait in a 90 minute line for Peter Pan?

You gotta eat, man. Even if it's just snacking. As Jim Gaffigan said, vacations are just eating somewhere you haven't been before.
