Universal studying China for park, resort
Thursday August 29, 10:12 pm ET
SHANGHAI, Aug 30 (Reuters) - U.S. theme park giant Universal Recreation Group said on Friday it is studying whether to invest in a theme park or a resort in China.
A company spokesman said the study, which began in January and would take as long as a year, would cover demographics, income and entertainment habits in Beijing and Shanghai.
"It certainly is an intriguing market and the feasibility study will indicate just how excited we should be," spokesman Jim Yeager told Reuters by telephone from Los Angeles.
Chinese and Hong Kong media have been buzzing with reports that U.S. theme park rival The Walt Disney Co plans to set up a theme park in Shanghai, although Disney officials have said only that the China market has potential.
Disney is planning to build a theme park in Hong Kong which will open in 2006.
Universal Recreation is also conducting studies in Malaysia and Germany, Yeager said, but he declined to say how soon a plan might be announced.<<<

Oh wow, I am so excited about the idea of a "Universal Studios China" that I think I'll bust.
I sincerely hope that Universal decides on Germany...
