Popular Beverage Hits Major Milestone:
Universal Orlando Marks Moment with 1,000 Complimentary Butterbeers
(January 6, 2011) In celebration of selling its millionth Butterbeer inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Orlando Resort shared 1,000 complimentary Butterbeers with guests on the streets of Hogsmeade.
Butterbeer appears as a favorite drink inside the Harry Potter books and films and is only available inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It is a nonalcoholic, frothy drink reminiscent of shortbread and butterscotch and is served cold or frozen.
Much has been written about Butterbeer since it made its debut on June 18, 2010, making it one of the most talked about beverages of 2010. There has been much speculation about its secret ingredients – but Universal Orlando will not share the closely guarded recipe. Universal has implemented special security procedures to protect the details.
Butterbeer quickly became a guest favorite. To help meet the strong demand, Universal Orlando added a fourth Butterbeer location within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
“You can see the excitement on our guests’ faces as they wait in line – and then the smile that comes with their first sip,” said Ric Florell, General Manager and Senior Vice President of Resort Revenue Operations for Universal Orlando. “Butterbeer is not just a beverage. It’s an experience.”
Inspired by J.K. Rowling’s compelling stories and characters, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is the most spectacularly themed environment ever created. It is the only place in the world where the wonder, excitement and adventure of the Harry Potter books and films come to life.

It's nasty!! While we were there in Nov my daughter bought one for $3.50, and after just 10-12 sips she was done! I had like 3, and that was enough! It's soooooo sweet :hurl: when my daughter threw it away it still looked full!! However, we love Harry Potter so we had to try it....we did now were done.

Some love it, some don't. I happen to get one every time i set foot into that area of the park..I love it!

Do you realize that means that they have made somewhere over $4 million dollars JUST on butterbeer sales alone in roughly 6 months?

Give or take. You have to probably account for refill price and souvinier mugs. Either way between 3-4 million.

Incredible. That superbowl ad paid off and then some. Absolutely incredible for a custom inhouse beverage.

I am not too fond of the taste either. I think I like the frozen a lot better. Took a sip of the stuff.

Pumpkin Juice..that is more the drink for me (has more of an Apple Cider taste)

I wonder how much JKR makes off the sales of this stuff too. I expect she takes her cut.

I am not going to pretend to know for certain but by all accounts of stuff similar to this ...Butterbeer is purely Universal's deal since they came up with it as an in house speciality soft drink and they make ALL coinage off it. They paid the rights to use the trademarked name Butterbeer from Rowling WB when they made the deals for the use of other trademarked names for the area.

I have Butterbeer every time i go to IOA, since i have a pass. I can have 3plus, since i love sweet things, and the frothy topping is amazing, but my mom can only take 1 1/2 and she's done.
It all depends on what you like.
You don't like sweet things? Don't drink it. Try the pumpkin fizz at the three broomsticks instead.

Yeah...they have different stuff for different people. I love both versions of the butterbeer but i very much dislike the pumpkin juice. :p
