Universal Orlando dubbed priciest theme park in the nation

According to MainStreet.com, after Universal Orlando raised their ticket prices last week, they became the most expensive theme park in the country. The statistic is based on the price of the cheapest single-day pass for two adults and two children plus parking for a Saturday visit. An adult one-park ticket is now $85, kids pay $79 and parking is $15 which adds up to $343 total.

Walt Disney World ranks second with the same ticket prices but parking only costing $14 for a total of $342. Sea World Orlando is the 4th most expensive with ticket prices ranging from $71-$99 and $14 parking for a grand total of just over $301. Disneyland ranked third and Universal Hollywood rounded out the top 5 at fifth.

What have they added this year? Harry Potter was last year.

Well yeah that is typically how it goes. If a park actually ADDS something than they kind of have justification to raise the price. If they are building something or it is in the works than it is hard to justify. That is typically the WDW defense from some fans. I don't like that because the people there at that moment are not getting the benefit. Although EPCOT and Animal Kingdom have gotten nothing new as far an actual stand alone attraction in years and raises the price along with the other parks.

Why pay more when nothing is open yet?

What about Universal Studios? Their last new attraction was HRRR in 2009. They didn't have anything new in 2010.

I'm not trying to disagree with what you're saying, but realistically for all of us, price hikes from both parks is just a fact of life. Some might argue that Universal doesn't need to raise ticket prices. They just do it in response to Disney doing it. Sort of the way gas stations work.

Oh totally. I am just pointing out a new E ticket to a theme park last year with new theming to an entire area as well a a new attraction over in the other park (as much as I don't care for HRRR) is more justification to raise the ticket price than not doing anything. I know that is not why they do it. But I feel more comfortable taking my money places that gives me plussed and new experiences on a more consistent and larger scale basis.

If you look at the most expensive ticket then Universal is slightly more expensive than WDW. However Universal held the line on a number of ticket options including Florida resident and passes which WDW raised. So for a FL resident, Disney is more expensive.

I agree. But the way I see it, Rome wasn't built in a day. I think the new FLE will be really cool, and there are many more little touches at Disney that I find worth the money (Wishes, MSEP, Illuminations, Fantasmic, Electrical Water Pageant). Those are expensive productions (at least the first 4) that have a price tag nightly. It's not like putting up a new ride, and it's paid for. They have to pay for those shows every night, know what I mean?

Yeah. But my thing is I knew going in before that I got the same thing and paid the same thing. I am not paying the new price and getting anything new out of it. Believe me I wish none would raise the prices as none of it is really a great idea to accept as fans. But I at least like to have newer stuff that keeps me coming back vs things that have grown a bit stale to some. I still love WDW, but they have had a lot of time they could of taken advantage of with something new at many of the parks.
