Universal Orlando blocking bottled water

If there is a will there is a way. You can get bra's that are fill able, fake beer bellies that are really contaminators, etc. etc.

Many other crude ways to bring stuff into the parks. I've personally brought flasks into WDW at night.

They need to go with good enough for security. It's not worth looking like it's a cash grab so you can stop some teenager from doing teenager things. Truth is a group of adults with a real purpose in mind can get just about anything into the parks easily. I won't say how to do it but a little work a head of time can allow you to conceal small objects, think Magician. Working together you could get fairly large and heavy objects into the park in parts. Is it a theme park or military base??? Only so much you can do.
Agreed- they even have flasks designed as tampons. Wonder how some lawyer is going to spin this, blame UOR, and sue.

Don't go giving them any ideas. Have you ever been to a security checkpoint at an NFL / pro sport game? No drinks allowed in the stadiums and pat-downs for everyone.
Agreed. But even that doesn't stop everything. It just makes me...i mean other people have to put in a tiny bit more effort to bring in a couple beers to the game.

This recent UNI policy change does seem fairly excessive though. When we stayed at Portofino Bay last month the bag check process by most of the boat captains was pretty laid back. I wonder how they are handling this in that regard. I assume they've had to beef up the number of trashcans at the resort docks as well, unless they are being more lenient with resort guests.

Many similar gated venues do not allow any outside food and beverage, so in it's own right it is kind of unusual that Disney, and to a much lesser extent Universal, have been lenient on this. I've seen Uni be inconsistent on this in the past, letting just about anything in during the day and tightening way up after about 4pm. I think inconsistency and unadvertised policy changes are confusing to guests. If you don't want to allow outside F&B, then make that abundantly clear and stick to it.

I have an annual pass to Uni but don't go as often as I should. Honestly one of the reasons I don't go more is because I don't like the arrival experience. In addition to my annual pass, they demand to see my drivers license every time at the auto plaza. Then the security is rarely friendly, professional, or even predictable. (I was nearly tackled one time by a security supervisor who somehow mistook my iPhone for a handgun.) Then you get to the turnstile where the host insists on grabbing your pass from you to scan it. And even after the biometric is validated and green lit, sometimes they still want to see ID again just for annoyance sake. Once I'm in the park it's fine, but getting in I feel more like some sort of unwelcome suspect than a guest. (And no, there is nothing about me that looks sketchy.)

Never been patted down at a Red Sox game ever. They do look in your bags and they don't allow food, but you could bring plenty in on your person. (I'm sure it varies from venue to venue...)

Well there are certain places you can put things in order to get liquids in... but, at DC Sports venues, they do check your coats and if you have baggy clothes... you have to demonstrate you aren't carrying in a fifth in your cargo shorts pockets.
And the NFL has that very restrictive bag policy... but they will sell you an approved clear vinyl bag of approved size that can be brought into the stadiums.

Also... this is a big waste of water, gatorade, etc and the bottles themselves.

Agreed, I dread to think how much is being thrown away around the world....airports etc all because of security issues.
I get how it's a problem for airtravel, and why they would restrict it there.....but in an predominately outside venue I can't see it doing much.

My bigger concern on waste still remains Disney's magicbands.....so much waste from producing millions of them a year, shipping them around half-way the world, massively over-packaged...only later to later mail most of them around the US in small numbers. Madness. At least just give them to guests on arrival...and not in massive boxes.

I sat through a meeting about it. A young girl brought two bottles full of vodka and nearly died.

Sad, but surely the park can't be held responsible in anyway? Even if they let people bring in anything they wanted, I don't see how someone drinking too much is their fault, it's not like they were responsible by serving them.
