When we went in mid-April of 2004, we visited both parks, but on two different days. On each day, we were done by 3 or 4 PM. So, I guess if the parks close at 10 PM, and they aren't overly busy, and you move at a fairly quick pace, it may be possible to do both parks in the same day. But I would suggest setting aside one day each for each park, just to give yourself plenty of leeway.

I second that .. we found Universal to be a 3/4 day park while IOA was more of a half-day park (we didn't have children at the time). We found both to be entertaining but haven't been back in many years. I do remember that there was one attraction at IOA called Poseidon's Fury or something like that which I found to be really, really cool!!

it is possible if you omit some minor attractions such as the Storm Force Accelatron, and Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast and focus on the major rides.

Depend on the time of year. Major attractions and a couple shows. Easy to do in late January/Feb. I must say that there was a package that is offrered for both parks unlimited for a week @ 89.00 or so. We bought last year, made it through both parks in a day, and never went back. Yet we love Uni, and were not on Disney property. Just, when you do it all and there is not much magic, well there just is not much magic. Example...........I could walk around Epcot WS any night and taste food and drinks, yet could not walk around Uni multiple nights abytime.

Yesterday (Monday) me and a friend (who'd never been before) did everything we needed to do by 2 PM.

At Islands of Adventure
Hulk
Spider-man
Jurassic Park
Both Dualing Dragons
Cat and the Hat (were done all of the above by 10:15, park opened at 9).

Skipped Storm Force (not open), Dr. Dooms fear fall (not our type of ride), Popeye (Refirb), Dudley Doo Right (didn't want to get soaked), Flight of the Unicorn (not open yet), Posiden's furey (not open yet), Sindbad (first show was 1:30).

We then switched over to Universal, ate food, did T2 3D (Breakdown involving an Evac), E.T. Men in Black, Disastar, Revenge of the Mummy, and Shrek 4D.

Skipped Jimmy Neutron, Twister, JAWS (refirb), all shows, Fivals playland and I belive that might be it.

We were done by 2:30 in the afternoon.

That's sort of what we did except we did some of the rides you skipped. We were down around 3-3:30.

Depending on the crowds it is entirely possible to see all the major attractions in each park in one day, especially if you have express pass. IOA never keeps my attention for more than a few hours. Its a beautiful park, but it focuses on thrill rides too much and we just don't go for those too much.

I think you could easily spend all day in Universal on a busy day if you saw everything and didn't have expresspass, but if the crowds are light or you have the express pass you can see most everything in both parks in one day. To really see everything and at a relaxed pace it will take you at least 1.5 days though. I don't recommend the one day track to first timers. You'd sever yourself better to just take it slow and take in the theme of everything there. I go quite often, so I'm perfectly happy with only hitting a few rides while I'm there because I know that there's always next time.

It'd be a stretch to do both on the same day, Universal's a 3/4 day park and IOA's about the same to do comfortably. The good thing is there are ticket deals for Universal all the time. So get a two day ticket and take your time.

i comfortably did everything in both parks in one day in the peak of summer WITHOUT express passes.

I think you got lucky. Basically, how much you get done and how much time you need depends on the time of year so more information required! And also if you arrive for park opening, or an hour late, makes a significant difference, espcially in summer.

ok well plan is to go the week of August 18th, so not sure if its slowed down by then, if i stay onsite i dont think i would like to pay transportation to go 2 days, with 4 of us it adds up. thats why it had crossed by mind to stay offsite for 2 days and onsite 5 days.

it would be easier in my opinion just to stay onsite. i think it would be a bit of an inconveinence to get settled, then have to up and move again. if you do stay onsite, take the bus to dtd marketplace, then catch a cab from there to uni. itll save you a bit of money on cab fare!! hope this helps! :)

We're planning WDW starting 8/21 and thought we'd get there a day early and do Universal. Still debating on IOA or the original US. Kids will be 10 and 16. Thoughts?

The 2 park pass is less than 10 dollars more. It's pretty much expected that people visit both parks, or you're in for a short day.

decided to stay onsite, going to rent a car and also buy the 7 day pass even if it gets used once...not much price difference

I've had the same experience where you can do both parks easily in one day, even in the summer. You can definitely get all of the vital attractions done.

If the crowds aren't too bad, you can do all the RIDES in both parks in one day. If you want to catch the shows, though, thats another thing... you'll need two days.

I booked my tickets through an operator who said it was possible to get the two parks done in a day ..... I was with 9 other ppl sooo , some ppl wanted to do a few rides over again >>> Because it was soo much fun .
Anyhow our next trip down we've all agreed to do 2 seperate days at each park . I myself did the Mummy and Dueling dragons twice :sohappy:
