Universal files patents in Spain with something resembling Velocicoaster. Speculation of Universal Europe begins.

Wasn't sure where to post this, I saw it yesterday. Waited to see if anyone would catch on, but seems like no one did yet. Pure speculation but people believe it could be the beginning of a Universal Europe resort. Not sure if these are more for so people can't copy the designs or what, but interesting nonetheless.

Again, nothing official but surprised by this.

There is no such thing as an international patent so the only way to protect a process globally is to seek multiple patents. Spain and the US are parties to the Patent Cooperation Treaty. This states that it’s based on a patent already filed elsewhere which suggests that it is just about protecting the idea in multiple jurisdictions. This is likely not evidence of what Universal is doing up to.

Weren't there rumors a few months ago that Universal was exploring buying back Port Aventura?

It would be a very welcome addition to our continent - exciting to hear!

I wonder if they would look to build a separate more traditional 'Universal' Park if they do buy out Portaventura? Would they have the land for a third park? Salou is a great area, very lively and with great transport links.
