I understand that when people are deciding what to spend their money on the fact that something is new and therefore still has room to grow doesn’t factor much into the equation when a fully built out park is on the other side.

But………….this park is opening with a vastly superior lineup than what other parks offered day one in recent Orlando history. That is what I’ll measure them against and IMO they are well above the bar.

How much do we actually know about the HP ride (and the Monsters ride, for that matter)?

Forbidden Journey is like half dark ride and half simulator, and although I know I'm in the minority, I don't think it's especially good because the simulator portions are pretty boring. It's also not very pleasant to ride because it's so jerky; I hope the Kuka arm Monsters attraction is smoother.

I also hope there's no simulator portion to either.

Forbidden Journey is more a simulator than a dark ride, and although I know I'm in the minority, I don't think it's especially good because it's so simulator heavy (and it's not a very interesting simulation). It's also not very pleasant to ride because it's so jerky; I hope the Kuka arm Monsters attraction is smoother.

I also hope they're both impressive dark rides and not mainly simulators.
The Monsters ride will in fact eliminate all of the simulator portions from HP.

That's fantastic news if true.

What about the HP ride? Is it actually going to be the first dark ride for the IP or will it be more like FJ or Gringotts?

I don't think they'll be getting Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint (or most of the rest of the cast) to film scenes for it (and even if they did, they're all so much older now), which could potentially be a good thing in terms of building something that isn't so screen heavy.

Yeah, I feel like a big reason for the "simulation" aspect of HP was as a way to get the various actors into the actual ride rather than having it be unconvincing animatronics. I don't really agree with the previous assessment that it's more of a simulator than a dark ride, though.

I mean, how many physical sets are required to meet someone's personal view of what is and isn't a dark ride, right?

If Epic runs the risk of opening with a “conservative lineup” how would you have described Animal Kingdom’s abysmal 2 pump ride offering(Countdown to Extinction and Safari) and MGM’s embarrassing 3 ride offering(Star Tours, Movie Ride and Catastrophe Canyon)?
Those were parks that were made to be more than just a theme park with rides. DAK had a zoo (notwithstanding the awful marketing of Natazu) and DHS had a working studios with studio tours that mimicked the kind you get with a studio tour of a studio in Hollywood. You went to those parks primarily for the zoo and studios tours and shows. Same with EPCOT... you went primarily for the World's Fair vibe, not to knock off ten rides in a row.

However, I can understand those who only care about rides. And for those people, DHS, DAK, and EPCOT are 'half day parks' since they can get all the rides done in half a day. By that judgement, they don't hold those parks in high regard.

(And yes, DHS is failing to be "...and something else" with closed shows, lack of streetmosphere, and shows that stick around too long.)

EU will not be "...and something else." It is primarily a ride park. For people who want just the rides, it'll be great for them.

However, for adults who aren't interested in the kiddie rides, they'll knock off 7-8 rides and start asking, "Is this it?" And then deride EU as a half day park.

In the same vein, parents with little kids are only going to find only 7-8 suitable rides for their kids (and then start ride-sharing).

Yes
Fact???

I hope you’re accurate with that word.

Because that horrific screen fix has got to be the most difficult thing to kick for Universal/Disney; those two have been full blown screen crack addicts perhaps the last 10 years.
Currently there aren't many official "facts" to speak of as most everything is hearsay and rumor, but the permits and building layouts for the monster's building seem to indicate that it will not feature carrousel screens like FJ and the ride vehicle will not feature a view-blocking shield/hood to direct your attention to domed screens. That's not to say screens won't be present, but rather the direction of the attraction is likely going to focus on physical sets with screens creating background details rather than something like FJ where you go back and forth from screen to physical set to screen.

Ministry is a bit more.... nebulous in nature. Details are hard to pin down but it seems to be the more screen-heavy of the two, compromising that with some pretty impressive animatronic moments.

It should also be noted that the screens in Monsters and Ministry are heavily rumored not to be projection based, but rather large OLED walls (like Bourne). This means a significantly sharper image which generates its own ambient light and is much easier to mistake for reality at scale.

Not sure about Disney but Universal seems to be aware that their guests have grown tired of the screen-based attractions.*

They're (relatively) cheap to construct and cheap to maintain and they typically require much smaller physical footprints but you're absolutely not alone in your criticism.

*Disney hasn't really added that much in the last 20 years so they still have a good mix of older physical to balance all the screen stuff (although Soarin' and Mission Space predate that) so they might still try to get away with popping a few more out before moving on.

Fair enough.

I just pray we don’t see specifically CGI of people like:

1)Girl picked up by giant bat and gets flown away in Kong at IOA

2)Vin Diesel(Toretto) grabbing onto a helicopter in Fast n Furious at Studios

3) Pratt on a motorbike leading raptors in Jurassic World ride in Beijing

Nobody is disputing those parks opened with lame and undercooked lineups. But that doesn’t mean adding a handful of half-themed 60s-90s coasters would’ve fixed those parks.

Hilarious as besides Tower of Terror, Disney's biggest answer to fixing MGM and AK for the first decade was Rocknrollercoaster and Primeval Whirl.

A 90 second coaster is also exactly what Disney's first MK net gained attraction since Splash mountain in 1992 was.

EPIC has a GREAT opening park line up, even the hub has attractions. Universal tends to use their expansion plots. This is the first park designed with these large of expansion plots in place.

I think within five years of opening you will see a Luigi's Mansion and another attraction.

A rumor from Alicia Stella also suggests that the first expansion after opening will be a Luigi’s Mansion ride. Don’t know when exactly but there’s already things lined up.

As soon as this virtual queue is done standby will only require 150 to 1 ratio of wait time vs ride time; making it the worst time investment of any ride’s payoff

We’re into packed water slide ratios with those numbers
