Universal Orlando has plans for two, 18-hole miniature golf courses on CityWalk, said city of Orlando permits.

The project would be located on 1.07 acres of land near the entrance of CityWalk next to the AMC Universal Cineplex movie theatre, and is planned to open in 2012. Construction is set to begin this summer.

Dubbed Hollywood Drive-In Golf, the attraction would be “designed by Universal’s creative team to do for miniature golf what a blockbuster theme park attraction does for a movie,” said a release.

Themes include guests playing in an environment resembling vintage horror and science fiction films of the 1950s. “As they experience two family-friendly courses — ‘The Haunting of Ghostly Greens’ and ‘Invaders From Planet Putt’ — guests will putt their way through elaborate movie-style scenes, passing through a cemetery, under a giant spider, through a flying saucer and into the basement lab in a haunted house,” said the release.

Can't say I am suprised as it is just good business to cater to your core audience.

The competition is about to begin. This will be fun. :)

Oh, and I predicted changes like this too.

I have mixed feelings about this development. It's nice that they're adding something, but the location is iffy. It's going to look cluttered.

Im not sure where there are gonna get the space for two courses. Here is a comparison. The first pic is winter summerland, the second Fantasia, and the third is CityWalk. The Scale is the same for all.

I always thought something could go there but unless they destroy the Valet area Im not seeing enough area for two courses

I am a bit surprised that no one also mentioned that the upstairs in Latin Quarter is going to have a Brazilian Steakhouse.

This sounds fantastic. Do you have anymore details? Links?

Yeah, it is evident they will be relocating the valet parking. I doubt it gets enough use and certainly would not generate the revenue that this new concept will. :)

According to a tweet from Attractions Magazine they have confirmed that Universal's valet parking will stay as it is now. The new mini-golf courses will occupy unused nearby land.

It's SO easy to say that "I predicted this" ...show us proof.

You can predict as much as you want, after awhile people stop listening but you are apt to get one or two correct if you predict EVERYTHING.

I thought "cool idea" at first, until I saw how little land they had to work with. First time I heard of this plan, I thought "are they gonna take out a couple of the clubs to do this?"

You think instead of building out, they're going to build up? No where did they say it was going to be an outdoor golf course...especially with how elaborate some of the sets are going to be...just a thought...lol

Per the new drawings it will use the current valet parking area. Considering they are adding two highly themed courses I think that was inevitable. So I think it is correct to say that valet parking will be as before, however it will just be in a new location.

This will be a cash cow for Uni as far as mini-golf can be. With all the people seeing it going in and out and the proximity of the resorts, I'd guess reservations will be required. Brilliant concept.

This is a huge deal and evidence, along with the rumored new water park, of Universal truly trying to compete with Disney for market share.
