And that is what they are doing now, it just wouldn’t be that hard to add payment capability for rental or purchase to the Disney+ app.

It probably is harder than you think to add purchase capability when the existing app is just made to check if you have a live subscription and thats it. Far easier to do it outside of the app.

Actually it’s not, they already have the infrastructure for payments in place with the Disney Parks app. Easy enough to port that code over to the Disney+ app.

There isn't a Disney parks app for my LG TV?

Just because one app on one platform can do something doesn't mean they all can. Also the functionality of the apps is very different.

I’m not sure if you understand how the app ecosystem works. The fact the Disney Parks app doesn’t exist on your LG TV is beside the point. The backend system where payments can be processed via apps exists within Disney’s infrastructure today. This is my guess about 80% of what is needed, and the hardest part. The other 20% is something that exists in many apps and can be added to Disney+ no matter what platform, including your LG TV.

The only real question is whether Disney wants to do it or not. My guess Is Disney is debating this internally now.

You asked why “reinvent the wheel”, well 100% is a whole lot better than having to split with another company. Plus it’s not reinventing the wheel, it’s about not having to pay to use someone else’s wheel.

I will go on a limb (not really) that Disney will never release Black Widow or any of their tent pole pictures straight to D+. They will wait until the corona craziness is over and then release. All the movies that have been released to VOD or D+ were already in the theater even if for a small amount of time. I do think that some smaller movies might go straight to VOD but not the big releases.

I would think they would hold off on that too, but after awhile, they will have little choice then to potentially lose money, or likely not make as much as they would have theatrically by releasing it in a home video format and streaming services. There is no other content being made righ now so Disney Plus as well as other streaming services are getting to their dry spells. Some money coming in on a cost that is already spent may be decided to better than chalking it up as this long of a loss.

On the flip side, they will have nothing for theaters if everything opens up soon so that is when the other choice would be a strategy, because it will take a bit before Disney has as much theatrically released again.

As someone said earlier, there is probably a Payable VOD infastructure planned or already programed not launched yet into Disney Plus, these are the same leaders who made Hard Ticketed Events so heavy in a business model for the parks.

LOL the first show is the best. Common sense the later you go the more money will be spent.

One would think that if someone is looking for inexpensive then VOD would be the way to go. As you would be able to watch it the same day its released in theaters and save money on the entire experience.
