Universal 5K

Didn't know they had one. Looks like a lot of fun. Too bad they don't do a half.

If it has been going 31 years I don't think it's Universals race since they haven't been in Orlando that long. They are probably more of a sponsor. Universal doesn't have the land for a half marathon. If they were to attempt one it would end up like the Disneyland half and running down tacky I Drive does not sound appealing.

Another post there mentions that it moved to Universal for the first time last year. So this would only be the second running through their parks. I imagine that they could come up with a 5k of their own, but not sure if it would be worth it for them, and 5k's don't tend to bring in that much cash or sponsorship.

After watching the video I specifically remember running next to both of the running cops in the Disney Half a couple of weeks ago. I remember running and then looking to my right to see them and thinking "wait are they trying to catch someone?", but then I saw their running bibs. :hammer:

I did it last year and thought it was okay. Very low key and underwhelming. Running through the parks was okay (especially Hogsmeade) but it was nothing like a Disney race. No music, entertainment, cheering squads...just nothing. It was actually really boring but the registration price was right for this race.

Silly Spook did a photo report when she ran this a year or two ago. Lots of characters, as I recall. The run itself, only a 5K, is pretty short.

Should be a fun alternative though.
