Unexplained cancellation

I haven't reached full panic mode because I am quite hopeful Disney will resolve the situation though any advice would be greatly appreciated. Booked AKL Club Level + Magic My Way package on Thursday and received 8-character reservation number. Received "welcome" email Friday with AKL info. Replied with standard pleasantries and provided arrival and departure info for Magical Express and a made a couple of other inquiries. A few hours later the concierge itinerary planner asked if I canceled my stay that it was now canceled! I replied within a half hour that I absolutely did not (which I believe can only be done by phone anyway). This was at 7:54PM EST. How worried should I be right now? The trip is for Jun 30th. I purchased non-refundable flights. I can presumably get a room anywhere else but that's not be point. I want what I reserved. Nothing more. Nothing less.

You handled this situation very well, I think I would've freaked out!

This is a surprise and my niece and nephew are still in the dark about it. Worst case scenario, we're in Disney World in a different resort. They'd have been blissfully unaware of missing out on AKL club.

My last trip I used my debit card too. Come to think of it a few hundred dollars more and I would have been in the same situation. Thanks for sharing. I will let the bank know if I'm going to make an over sized debit in the future. Oy.

And on that note, my DS is on a cruise now with his debit card. I called the bank, informed them of Miami, ports of call/dates. Last thing he needed was a freeze on his card 'cause the bank flagged the card for charges unexpectedly coming out of the Caribbean.

I will do the Sunrise Safari, just haven't decided which day yet. Does it sell out quickly?
It was the morning we did it. I was surprised. It was well worth it. We also did a behind the scenes tour at AK which was great. It was our family and another family from Germany. That was it for that tour. Very cool.

I had an issue with AKL and the computer system. On phone they were saying no room that I wanted, while online I could get it. never did resolve why that was happening.

How right you are. Now a days we like to think that with everything digital everything is safe and convenient in virtual space and don't need a paper trail cluttering things up. Unfortunately we still need paper trails, or our info backed up and then the back up needs to be backed up. I had my hard drive crash a few weeks ago with so much work data on it. I was able to save all of the kids pictures, but I have a lot of important work files. I have spreadsheets keeping track of my jobs. I've had to go back and go through the receipts again and add everything up. I still don't know how I'm getting that data off that hard drive.

I was half watching Bang Goes the Theory on BBCAm and it was an ep about computers, data, etc. And it talked about not only backing up, but backing that up b/c the hardware degrades. So even if you have backed up on an external hard drive, that can degrade over time (didn't have my full attention, but it was a shockingly short amount of time). I remember back in the day there was concern about CDs (music) degrading, but I had not thought about this with hardware such as an external drive or flash drive.

Glad you were able to get the rate and room you wanted! I always write down our confirmation numbers, screen shot our ADR's and room reservations and also print them out. I am way too paranoid about something like this happening!!

I remember just last year we had been all over WDW resort using my debit card which is a reoccurring event. Back in Tampa I went through the drive through at McDonalds the next day and my card was declined. Bank froze my card for suspicious activity. Which was suspicious the charges at WDW or the trip to McDonalds for a 49 cent hamburger. :D

Another thing I've learned, I don't use my card at the pump ever, I go inside and pay debit or credit. Anytime a card is used at the pump, regardless if it's a debit transaction, they have a right to place a hold on your account up to 100 dollars no matter how small the transaction, even if its 5 dollars.

Debit cards cause quite a few more issues, but people should be aware that "suspicious activity" on a credit card can cause the cc company to put a hold on it also. That is why you should call and tell them you will be traveling, so this doesn't hit you at an inconvenient time.

Also do not use a cc for the first time at a gas station. A lot of thieves who steal cc will first try to use it at a pump to see if it is working.
