Understanding Imagineering #1 - Who does what better?

There is another element of budgeting that we need to consider. Universal has lately been budgeting with time and a half in mind where disney is budgeting with normal time cost. Part of the reason you don't hear about Universal running over cost.

Another element is has Disney become like the government. Everyone knows Disney has money and can pay, if your gonna bid a job your place a high bid because Disney will pay for it. I think Disney is seeing higher bids for projects the Universal is paying less for because of this reasoning. Its like a doors installation for a office building will be about $50,00. Door Installation for a building the same size for the government will cost about $400,000, because the Government will pay.

It's not so much an availability of money but organizational structure. Add a few extra meetings on that door and you now have a higher cost. Universal Creative also maintains a smaller staff and then jiggers design firms to work on projects as needed. Walt Disney Imagineering is doing this more and more, but still has a larger staff as well as less directly involved departments such as Research.

Very true. I think all of things come together to hinder WDI to be honest. If I had to chose between WDI and Uni Creative I would lean towards UNI because of the smaller structure. Many reviews of working for WDI point to structure is tearing apart the company and hindering it.

Ok, now for the next stage in thread. A recap. Basically, every time I feel a thread is dead...

(Read in Bruce Willis voice) "Thread's dead baby"

...
I'll write a recap. It's just all the things I think armchair imagineers should take note of from the thread, like a summary.

This thread didn't have much, but that was expected. The topic was a very simple one to help everyone get used to what I was trying to do. Here's the main things I think we can take from this:

-Franchises seemed to be a deciding factor when it came to immersion.

-Budgets can be useful for thinking outside the box. A fake budget could be a fun test for an Imagineer in training.

I want to thank everyone for contributing to this thread and I hope you'll all take part in the next one (coming later today). If you have any topic ideas please PM them to me. Thanks!
