My answer is prince of Persia. I really think it is the best video game movie. I know, that's not a very high bar of course. But video game aside, it was a solid action adventure movie.

The newer movies that I think that get overshadowed by Frozen and Toy Story are and the probably all have been mentioned already are The Princess and the Frog, Coco, Inside Out, and we will see about Onward.

Any of those late 60s/early 70s Kurt Russell films are classics.

Not to mention the connected universe of Medfield College. Disney was doing the Cinematic Universe before Marvel

Oz the Great and Powerful

I liked it anyways, interesting take on the story of Oz.

Then of course have to throw in there Return to Oz, scared the crap out of me as a kid but still a good film.
YES! Oz the great and powerful was a great movie. At one point Disney was going to make a land based around it at Disneyland but canceled it after the movie flopped.

Don't really know if this movie is considered underrated, but in my opinion it should get as much talk and exposure as Mary Poppins does. I love the movie Enchanted. It also mixes the animation and live action that Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Returns does and I actually think the story is better than Mary Poppins. The songs in Enchanted as in my personal opinion rival those from Mary Poppins and are better than the ones in Mary Poppins Returns.

I agree! Enchanted is a pretty great movie :)

To give a really specific example, the 1978 featurette Small One (yes it is on Disney+).

I feel like Disney largely ignored it after its initial release mainly because it was directed by Don Bluth, who left with half of Disney's animation department 2 years later.

It was surprising to me to find out how it was made after Rankin/Bass did Nestor, the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey which has a similar premise, and may be another reason why it wasn't shown on TV as often? I remember CBC would air it sometimes during the holidays.

I agree with a few that have come up already, but I really enjoy Hercules and feel it's been kind of forgotten.

Disney generally seems to just pick a few winners these days, marketing them relentlessly and ignoring everything else even if they were box office hits. Of the ones that have been mentioned, I would question whether Coco actually counts as underrated as it is pretty beloved and seems to be becoming a bit of a staple at the parks in terms of live entertainment and merchandise. Emperor's New Groove is an odd case of a film that has become a cult classic but, much like when it came out, Disney seems determined not to acknowledge.

It doesn't fit their pre-determined branding rules and franchise focus.

Maybe if Kuzco was a Princess they'd change their minds.
Yes, the other way films seem to living on through merchandising is if they can be incorporated into some line. For example, Pegasus from Hercules does show up as I guess they figure they can sell plushes of Disney horses. Same for Fox and the Hound or Marie plushes for people who like other kinds of furry animals. Kuzco isn't quite as cute and fluffy...

I 100% agree with this.

The only exception I can think of is Hocus Pocus. It was not a hit upon its initial release, but now Disney markets the hell out of it. Maybe because it's one of their few truly Halloween movies (as apposed to Nightmare Before Christmas...which involves 2 holidays) and that holiday is now such a huge money maker.

Another one might be Newsies, but since the stage show is no longer on Broadway and/or tour its been pushed to the back again.

Coincidently, both of the above titles were directed by Kenny Ortega, who did the High School Musicals too. He's made a lot of money for Disney over the years, even if it was dolled out over the decades.

The adverse side effect of only marketing a handful of movies and/or franchises is that it makes it harder to sell the value of a streaming service, even if it has hundreds of titles.

That's probably why Disney felt they needed to get the streaming rights to things like The Simpsons and Home Alone...to fix a problem they themselves created.
