I hate umbrella strollers!! They seem uncomfortable, thus the term I've come up w/ for them : sheet on wheels. lol My mom and I will be traveling to WDW next month w/ a one yr. old and she wants to take an umbrella stroller for the little one, more for convenience purposes than anything.I however think it would be better to take my cousin's regular stroller, she'll be more comfortable, shielded from the sun, it'll provide storage space for her things as well as our own and she can take naps in it if need be.I'm trying hard to convince my mom of this but shes not budging. lolShe says it'll be easier: less work at the airport & at the bus stops. and we can get her a hat and sunglasses to protect her from the sun...Which im postive she'll just pull right off her face and head.lol..ok,enough of my stroller rant! :-D

I have to agree with you. I live near Hershey Park and have season passes there. We have taken both a "regular" stroller and an umbrella stroller to the park. I prefer the regular stroller because you can store things underneath, they usually have a place to hold drinks and a little tray that goes across the front of the carriage that you can put things on for the baby to play with. Plus my hubby and I are tall so those cheap umbrella strollers (think $10-$15 stroller) are just a little too short for us and uncomfortable to use for long periods of time. It may be a little more work to get it into the park but I think it would be worth it, especially for a 1-yr old.

I agree that the typical, cheaper umbrella strollers are not that great for one year olds.

If you are wanting to use a stroller that you already have and you only have the option of the umbrella stroller or the regular one, then I would take the regular one.

However, if you are willing to purchase a new stroller, then something like this is great:http://www.combistrollers.com/ProductDetails.aspx?CategoryID=3&selection=7&Children=0&productID=764 (if you shop around, you can find this or something similar to it a bit cheaper....I lucked out and got mine on sale for $40 because a new model was coming out).

I used one of these combi strollers with my 12 month old on her first trip to WDW and it was great. She was comfortable and took naps in it everyday. The BEST thing about it is that it is designed to be easy for travel....it folds up very quickly and has a carrying strap. It is much easier to get on and off busses with it than a regular stroller. Also, it has a weight limit of 55 pounds, which means the child can use it for many more years.

I ended up liking the stroller so much that after we were home I never used her regular larger stroller again! I used this combi stroller all together. I still use it and she is almost four years old now. The stroller is very high quality...it has made it through 5 Disney trips now, plus everyday use for the last 3 years.

My DD is going on 4 - but has been traveling to the World since she was 10 months old. We are on our second Graco LIte Rider. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ci_sku=7964362

Reclines, it's light-weight, easy to fold, great for the buses, has a canpoy. We wore the thing out - but 50 or 60 bucks - you can't go wrong.

We are leaving in 6 weeks - she is now over 40lbs and over 50 inches.....the faithful stroller is still going with us.

I think that there are a wide range of "umbrella strollers". the cheap ones give them a bad name!! You can have a full feature umbrella fold stroller that is easier to use and just as comfortable as a book fold stroller. Try out a Maclaren before you make the generalization that umbrella strollers are like those $10 cheapos!

You're right on this one..... Even tho at the airport/opening and closing the umbrella stroller will be more convienent, but in the long run, you'll be spending more time in the parks, than in the airport or on the transporatation areas. You'll definitely need the space - not only for storage, but for the child. (S)He'll be able to sleep better in the regular stroller. We brought our regular (bigger) stroller, and it was a little bit of a hassle when we got to the parks entrance, but after that... I'm SOO glad we did bring it and not the umbrella stroller.

I second the vote for the stroller that Jessie&Buzz linked too. We have one and it is perfect for the parks. It has everything you could want and it folds up nice and small for the Trams/busses. The best features are the shade, that it reclines and the storage underneath. Not many think about the recline, but the child will get tired out and while they will be able to sleep sitting up, it us so much nicer that you can just recline the seat, give them some milk, put up the shade(with a blanket or towel over it) and walk them to sleep.

I had a cheap umbrella stroller our first trip and hated it. There was no place to store anything and the worst part was no sun shade for our DD. And if you go cheap, watch out because the darn wheel came off of the rim because it was so hot on the pavement. It actually melted, lost it's shape and wouldn't stay on. I just threw it in the trash and had to rent one.
