What's the weather like in the UK in May?

I may be taking a trip that way from school. We get money for a trip to different places. It would cost like $500 to go to London area for about 10 days that would cover air, room, any trips taken as a group, museum tours including a trip to Stonehenge and Bath.

How many of you are near London? If I indeed go, I'll have 2 or 3 days to run around London by myself.

If you're lucky you might catch a good day! (no chance of a good 10 days!)

London is a very expensive place though!

I dont live near london, but the weather over there is good in the late spring/summer months. Obviously all can change (and it often does!).

Dates to avoid

Don't come to the UK :-
When there's a Bank Holiday (usually a Monday) - we always have rain when everyone (well nearly everyone) gets a day off work.
During the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships - it always rains and delays the games turning the Wimbledon Fortnight into the Wimbledon 17 days

London is warmer than practically anywhere else in the UK, due to the density of people and the fact that cockneys (people from London) blow a lot of hot air. It MIGHT be true!

The end of May will be warmer than the beginning (pretty obvious as we are closer to what is laughingly called 'summer'), but it could be coolish. Bring most of your wardrobe just in case.

If you fly into Heathrow, it's a good 45 minutes on the tube, which is the cheapest and quickest way to get into London. DO NOT get a taxi, as you will first need to arrange a mortgage.

The West End is open 24/7, so go there. The Tower of London is a good day out if you like history. Get a ticket in advance and avoid the queues.

If you want to travel by tube, get a pass which lasts a few days. It works out much cheaper than buying individual tickets and you only have to queue once.

Learn to queue. Eveyone does it. I think for some people it is their hobby.

Get one of those Big Bus tickets, which allows you to hop on and off all day around the big tourist areas and which gives a running commentary whilst you are on board.

Catch a football match. There are a number of clubs in London, none of which I would see personally (See Avatar).

Stonehenge. mmmm, nice if you want to travel for about two and a half hours and look at some big stones and not even get to touch them. A visitors' centre is planned, but not before your trip.

Bath is good. Great architecture and no big stones.

Bla, bla, bla...........

I'm sure we will fly into Heathrow. There will be about 20 of us from school going. Transportation in groups won't be a problem. Most of the time we will be together including going to Stonehenge and Bath. There will be a charted bus to take us to those places.

THREAD DRIFT WARNING....WARNING ....WARNING...

...as long as all the Brits are reading this...is there any truth to the story I heard yesterday that the Brits will be doing a new reality show called, "SICK HOUSE".... yep....3 people live in a house and try to contract as many diseases as possible...including VD...doctors will be on-site to make sure things won't get out of control...

...This is no joke....I heard it briefly on a BBC news station but can't find anything about it...unless it's that British sick sense of humor that I've grown to love...

...so...what did u catch last week?....

...sorry Turkey Leg Boy...didn't mean to step on your thread...well, yes I did.:animwink:

I think you've been had. Do the 3 have to have disesases before they go in so that they can pass them on or are viruses introduced whilst they are there.

Does the one who lives longest win!

It's a pity Survivor has already been done, as this could have been it, literally.

May in England is a lovely time as the weather can sometmes be at its best and the countryside is in full bloom.
The football season is over so you may find it difficult to see a professional game.
London is a wonderful place and although it can be expensive there are lots of places that are still free to enter. The Victoria and Albert Museum, the natural history or the War Museum will keep children amused for hours.
The best thing about Englandis that it is tiny and you can travrl across most of in over a few hours, I can't recommend it enough :animwink:

I forgot the footie season would be over, or practically. Anyway, the Cup Final will still be in Wales, not London. When the people who know nothing about sport (or anything much), i.e. the Govt. get their heads out of their backsides, we might see an English Cup Final in England.

Turkey Leg Boy - you watch far too much TV. No-one gets killed at football matches, just seriously injured now and again! Really, like anything, if you are looking for it, you will find it.

I forgot to mention the London Eye to put on your list of things to do. It's a big, big wheel, which may not sound that impressive. Do it and post something on here when you have returned home.

i heard mark and lard talking about it on the radio yesterday

i think the article was in The Sun newspaper www.thesun.co.uk so take it with a pinch of salt

it wouldn't surprise me though if it were true what with all the other "reality" tv shows on at the moment
