Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach?

Question - we are heading down next month with our 5 year old daughter. We've never done the water parks before. We have one day free to hit a waterpark - which one is better for kids? Thanks!

They both have their "kid" areas. However, I found TL to be better if you want to just swim. The wave pool does have larger waves(they go off and on) but I found the relatively calm(most of the time) water to be easier to swim in. The "choppy" water at BB was more tiring to swim through(I am a very good swimmer).

However, for kids that young you probably wouldn't venture far into the water. I am not too familiar with the kiddy areas but, as I said, I would go with TL.

With a 5-year-old, I recommend BB over TL. We have a 4 year-old son and have done both parks -- he/we like BB much better. For one thing, there are two kids areas at BB, one geared for the 3-7 year-old set, and one for 8-12 year-olds. My son likes just about everything in both kids areas (he's a thrill-seeker).

On the larger slides, BB's family ride is much better than TL's -- one of the best and longest of that kind of ride. Plus, your daughter can go with you on a double tube on Runoff Rapids, and she can probably handle the mat slides (Snow Stormers and Tobaggan Racers). Also, the wave pool at TL produces great breakers, but can be a little intense for little ones. BB's wave pool has more gentle bobbing waves -- much better.

Finally, BB has a chairlift that can be used for some of the waterslides. This is a nice break from having to use the stairs, particularly for little ones with little legs.

We went to both parks on our last trip with our son who at the time was about 3 and a half. He's not afraid of anything, and he wasn't really swimming at the time. We personally enjoyed TL the best.

Our son went on all the slides at TL where he met the height requirement, which turned out to be almost everything. We were pleasantly surprised as we thought we'd have to do a lot of passing off. My husband and I liked the slides overall at TL, but I definitely got a physics lesson on this trip. Even if we were getting tossed from side to side in the curvy slides, our son was too light to get up on the curves, so he just had a nice ride straight down the slides.

Now granted, we hit BB in the afternoon, and we had to seek shelter for an hour during a storm. The good part of that was a lot of people left. The downside was that they never restarted the chair lift, and we had to walk up ALL THOSE STAIRS!! I will concur that the family ride at BB is the best.

I hate to say this, it's really a personal preference. I love the atmosphere at TL - the greenery, the neutral colors, everything.

I have only been to TL years ago. I opted out of the waterpark option for my five year last year bc a majority of the waterparks have a 48 inch height requirement and did not feel that my daughter then 40 inches would enjoy it. I pictured myself fighting battles all day bc she wanted to go on the big kid slides. Just something to consider. We got just as much out of the pools at Port Orleans RS & FQ that are as much as a water park can be for a five year old.

Loved both but liked the fact that we didn't have to carry the tubes as much at Blizzard Beach. On some slides they had a conveyor belt that carried the tube up for you. At Typhoon Lagoon you had to carry the big family raft up some stairs and it could be awkward while trying to watch a child and help them climb too.

BB is the newer park and has the better slides for that reason. But it doesn't have Crusher Gusher, the water coaster that's in TL.

I'd definitely go with BB. They also have two minature golf courses on-site that are also fun.

I agree

There are alot less things for small kids to do in BB

We thought most of the water slides had the 48 inch requirement as well, hence our thought that we'd be doing a lot by ourselves throughout the day. What I quickly discovered is that it's just the big crazy slides. Most of the slides did not have such a height requirement. Our son was about 41 inches when we went in 2006, and he was able to do almost all of the slides.

First off, I don't have little ones any more, so that may bias my answer.
Both parks are great for adults, and each has a few specialty items.

I tend to prefer TL more because it is much more shaded. You can get out of the sun if you need to, the lazy river is also in that shade. BB is blazing white...and in addition to leaving you "snow blind", it does things to pasty white northerners in surprisingly little time.

I guess it also depends on his height and comfort in doing the various slides. If he is comfortable as long as Mom and Dad are along, they can have a lot of fun at either.

PS Which ever one you choose, try to get there early...they tend to get fairly crowded after lunch

After watching my five year old cousin in both water parks this past summer I'd definitely say he enjoyed Blizzard Beach more than Typhoon Lagoon. He just loved the idea of being at a water park that made him feel like it was winter. He loved taking his picture with the snowmen etc... I happen to love both water parks' atmospheres but i think BB is more 'kid friendly' =]
