Typhoon Lagoon closed today (May 3) due to technical problems

Wow, what a great coincidence!

Typhoon Lagoon is closed because of "technical problems," and the problems at Blizzard Beach have been fixed, all without a day between! And Disney hasn't publicly spoken about what these problems actually are. They're just... technical problems.

I don't want to come to false conclusions, they could certainly be real issues. But I'm starting to have doubts about all of this. It just doesn't seem right.

And if it is just some odd coincidence, and not a sneaky cost-cutting measure, they need to hire some better engineers and others. I hate to criticise like that, but between this, Rivers of Light, possibly the Frozen ride... it's hard to be understanding.

When you make minimum wage or close to it, work 40-60+ hours a week with no say in the schedule that at times schedules your shifts exactly 8 hours apart, have no right to be in the union because you are an "Intern", or have any privacy in the apartment you pay more than double the going local rate for while living with up to 8 people and can be forced to work 12 days in a row, you would be slightly upset too when you were promised something fun and then had it taken away. TLDR: If you complain about CP's you've likely never been one.

Edit: btw regular cast do get parties and special events thrown for them depending on their work area and years of service. Catered lunches also happened at least once quarterly in my experience as well.

Don't you mean USED TO I thought all the CM recognition stuff went out as part of the budget cuts

Speaking as a former CP (twice), aside from the union part and the shared apartment part*, I don't really know how the CP life differs from the regular CM life. Unless you have a lot of full-time seniority (and in some areas, we're talking double-digits worth) to protect you, there really isn't much of a difference between how CPs or CMs are treated by the company. And being in the union doesn't suddenly make your wages higher or your hours shorter. You're treated the same way as a non-union CM.

And when regular CMs get parties and special events, the CPs get to join in those too. They aren't excluded or anything. :)

By the way, the most I ever worked was when I was a regular full-time CM. I worked 21 days straight and working 70+ hours in those work weeks (and then I just got ONE day off). I didn't ask for extra hours either. It was just what everyone was being scheduled back then at that particular attraction. But my CP hours never came close to that unless I specifically signed up for additional hours!

No biggie and the SAVINGS on staffing this closed attraction will help propel TWDC to another RECORD quarter...
.

It is starting to follow that pattern. Dis brought back Typhoon back early from the 'extended' refurb when issues arose at Blizzard. Today the slides at Blizzard reopen and golly Typhoon is closed. May isn't a high tourism month. The savings of cast wages has to be amazing this Winter/Spring when they continue to close one or the other waterpark. Volcano Bay is just a year away from launching. It will be a nice option.

I hope SOMEONE in the corporate offices see what a cluster you know what that is becoming of their theme park in Florida and how all of the news and events this year look

Yep, and they are all b**ching about it today. They need to learn to be grateful that Disney is doing anything for them. Regular CM's don't get parties thrown for them like that.

Boy I could debate that from either side. For the most part I don't believe any Cast owes Disney any Gratitude. It is also difficult to believe
'all' the CPs are B'ing. Before my DS went to work for corporate side he did two tours as a CP. He had the time of his life. He didn't earn enough to cover the expenses and still enjoy the perks. We continued to subsidize him like we did when he was at his University. He was a pretty savvy college student, he understood the bitterness many of the Cast had towards the CPs and how some supervisors were great with the CPs and others were just...well not. The luck of the draw. My son was blessed both times with amazing supervisors and coordinators and very plum roles unlike some of his friends. His friend from home and also a CP was piloting a monorail the night of the accident. There was little to no support for those immediate co-workers at the time or the days after even though they were rattled being in the thick of it. So I guess asking them to have gratitude is more than I expect. I went to teacher's appreciation day today. While the staff was gracious to us, the board I stop short of believing they had gratitude for the small perk nor did I believed the professional staff owed us gratitude. While many of us appreciate our employers many don't, some employers do not deserve the expectation of gratitude.

Well you have to understand the reputation they have over years and years and years. I'd like to say they are better today but a quick look at a certain social app in their area just pushes them back into that category. I do believe there are many who truly here to get a good experience. But when you have new-to-the-adult-world people all living together, many for the first time with no supervision, things get carried away very quickly, even if they DO work for Disney. There is no denying that kind of behavior goes on from any former or current CP. So it's easy to understand why people think that.

I don't think its fair to judge the thousands of CPs that come through Disney via a phone application that lets users post gripes under the guise of "anonymity".
Gripes would be fine. It's the constant begging for more hookups that fills the app. And it isn't "anonymity" when they post their housing name and even unit number, is it? No.

I highly doubt this has anything to do with labor savings. A day of closure announcement would still have all cast members showing up to work.

Much of this is Disney's fault, At one time the CP was a real experience where CP'ers worked along side professionals and seasoned front line CM's to learn how outstanding customer experiences were created.

Now CP'ers are seen as cheap labor by Disney and people wonder why a bunch of kids have 'issues' and also why they are hated by the regular CM's
