Two insignificantly tiny food observations from 12/1

I'm sure everyone knows these already but I hadn't been out to the 'World since May.

#1: WDW has switched over to whole wheat buns for their burgers. Both Cosmic Rays in MK and American Pavilion in Epcot had whole wheat buns on their burgers. I have to say though, they weren't that good. They had a "stale" taste to them. I don't mind whole wheat as a rule, but there's good whole wheat and bad. These were definitely on the poorer side of the taste factor for me.

#2: Casey's no longer has the thin, shoestring French fries. You remember they had those thin ones they gave you in a cup? The ones that were always rather sad, limp and never very good? Well, they've switched. They use the same fries that the other counter service places offer. A little fatter cut and now served in the same trays that the burger/fries combo is; the little "boat" shaped ones.

Oh and I didn't get a pic, but the regular sized drinks were being served in holiday-themed cups. The large size drinks were in the "Year of a Million Dreams" ones. They also had a souvenir holiday mug you could buy. Saw it at Casey's. It wasn't everywhere and in fact, MGM had a different one that lit up instead. What's nice is the one I picked up from Casey's has a removable bottom and the CM's filled that part with ice so your drink didn't get watered down.

So yeah, utterly useless minor observations but hey, thought I'd share anyway.

I noticed the buns too when I was there 11/25-26. I didnt like them either, they were crumbly so they were obviously stale. Maybe they dont last very long?

Last week when we were there, my wheat bun at Casey's broke in half, so I asked for a new one, they got me a new bun, and it also had a stale, crumbly effect. Pecos Bill's hamburger buns were also wheat and were tasteless and dry. This ruined the food at two places we always eat and look forward to...now? Not so much. I eat wheat bread when I'm home. Come on, Disney, let us have some treats when we are on vacation!!!

It was the same at the All Star Music resort when I ordered a hot dog. The bun was wheat and it was too big for the hot dog by a few inches.

A slight correction and an addition. They're not completely wheat buns, they're actually Whole Grain buns (which would be partially comprised of wheat). Also, the pizza dough on property has been switched to a similar whole grain formula.

The WDW nutrition police are on the job!

Everyone just needs to let WDW know what you think of the new buns and suggest they make eating healthy an option not a requirement. Looking at the kids menus for our upcoming trip they seem to be facing the same healthy kick. Woo woo unbreaded baked chicken strips.

This is truly pathetic. You're already eating a hamburger probably made out of a low grade meat and a hotdog that probably doesn't contain any edible product. What difference would it truly make if it were on a healthier bun.

When we were there 11/25-12/1, every hot dog bun that my kids ordered fell apart, not just at the "spine" of the bun, but the whole thing crumbled and tasted stale. I just told my kids to abandon the bun and eat just the hot dog. That seems like a bigger waste to me than serving "less healthy" buns that at least taste good. If everyone has this experience with both the hamburger and hot dog buns, they won't be around for long, regardless of how healthy they may be.

Did you have a bitter lolipop today? The burgers on property are Grade A beef, and the hotdogs are typically all beef as well.

Perhaps with enough complaints, they'll consider the new buns a failed experiment and return to the tried and true. I don't have an issue with changes like removing the trans-fat from foods as it hardly changes the taste, but when quality starts to suffer it's time to stop.

I haven't been to Disney since they overhauled all the fries a few months back, but never cared for Casey's old fries.

Well said. Although, I don't mind all-grain products because they do keep the refined grossness away, I don't eat hamburgers or hot dogs.

See... I dont like the grittyness of whole/all grain breads... (from other peoples posts... it sounds like it is... and it breaks apart to) :hurl:

Give me a nice refined goodness bun.

Just throwing in my bit that I like the whole grain buns! I thought the Enriched Flower white-bread buns were boring and tasted like...

Well tasted like nothing.

SEVERAL years ago all the "beef" on property went to Turkey burgers - and it was NASTY! It didn't take long for it to be changed so maybe this will as well.
