Tweaking the Disney/Universal Parks

In this thread I’m going to list the changes I’d make to the Disney parks

Magic Kingdom
  • Take out the carpets and replace it with a meet and greet area
  • Add “Moana: Journey through Motonui” in the southern expansion plot (where most put fire mountain), it would be a spinning coaster (primordial at lagoon) themed to te fiti/te ka and the events of the film
  • I’m keeping Tiana (and most future attractions)
  • Add an expansion to Frontierland (slightly based on Park Lore grizzly valley) with “Big Lightning Mountain Railroad” (a bigger/more intense thunder mountain), a modern indoor/outdoor Western River Expedition, a playground (like DCA redwood creek), and a family drop tower
  • Add a villains land (again inspired by park lore) with an e ticket dark ride, a family flat ride, and a show themed to some villains (land is connected to Frontierland expansion and Gaston’s tavern)
  • Either keep Presidents or replace it with a dark ride (again inspired by park lore)
  • Replace speedway with a fantasyland dark ride (Alice like an old sw Wilson concept) and a Tomorrowland dark ride (wall e?) and fix the transition by retheming cosmic ray’s (based on some ideas I’ve seen around the forum particularly sw)
  • Replace buzz with a wreck it Ralph shooting ride because Toy Story mania already exists
  • Put something where stitch was (I don’t care what ip is used just put something there)
  • Retheme Tomorrowland terrace (maybe make it table service) to help it stand out or make it part of Main Street (a la @DisneyManOne)
  • anything that wasn’t mentioned stays untouched
Before I do Epcot, I have a question for you guys: how would you tweak Magic Kingdom?

I have a question for you guys: how would you tweak Magic Kingdom?
1. Remove Magic Carpets with planters.
2. Use the southern expansion plot between POTC & The Jungle Cruise for a new version of Fire Mountain featuring the S.E.A
3. Retheme Tiana to a new version of Western River Expedition.
4. Add projections to BTMR. (like the ones at DL)
5. Readd the Keelboats and the Canoes back to the Rivers of America.
6. Add a new entrance to It's a Small World to make it match with the other versions (and fix the bottlenecking in the area)
7. Refurbish the Castle Courtyard section of Fantasyland to make it more akin to the Disneyland version.
8. Refurbish Peter Pan's Flight. (New 2-seater ships, new effects, and an additional scene)
9. Remove Phillarmagic with a Cinderella dark ride.
10. Remove PFH and readd Snow White's Scary Adventures.
11. Remove Enchanted Tales with Belle & BOG with a new B&TB dark ride similar to Toyko. (Backstage road will be rerouted)
12. Add a Villains Land in the Plot behind the Backstage Road with a E-Ticket ride through Maleficent's Castle, a D-Ticket through Hades Underworld, and an Animatronic Show featuring all the Disney Villains singing their respective songs.
13. Add Casey Jr Circus Train where the yellow tent is located.
14. Add some detail to SDMT and a new finale.
15. Add an Alice in Wonderland and Wall-E dark ride where the Speedway is and fix the transition between FL & TL
16. Retrack Space Mountain with new glow-in-the-dark rockets, new effects, and on-board soundtrack.
17. Add a simulator ride through the cosmos where the Stitch building is.
18. Add a new version of Timekeeper to the theater.
19. Bring a new outdoor theater to Tomorrowland.
20. Bring back the Tall Pylons for TL's main entrance.
21. Retheme Cosmic Ray's.
22. Add a new nighttime parade.

Before I do Epcot, I have a question for you guys: how would you tweak Magic Kingdom?
Very good question there! Here's my answer...

Adventureland

  • The Temple of Camazotz coaster, pitched by @cdunlap, goes in the pad Fire Mountain was originally planned for (this would help give the park unique E-tickets to call its own, something that it currently lacks)
  • Get rid of the Magic Carpets; maybe put Trader Sam’s Tiki Twirl (this flat ride stems from Brian Krosnick’s MK buildout) here and touch the Treehouse up a bit

Frontierland

Like Disneyland, the Rivers of America would be shortened and the Railroad would be rerouted to accommodate both a new land (as will be touched on below) and an expansion featuring...
  • Geyser Mountain (freefall dark ride, like in Krosnick’s buildout)
  • Cactus Springs (water play area; think Geyser Gulch at Hong Kong)
  • Prickly Gulch Saloon (refreshment stand)

Liberty Square

  • The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (C-ticket Fantasyland-style dark ride, in the spot currently occupied by the Hall of Presidents)

Fantasyland

The early 2010s expansion/renovation didn’t do exactly enough to flesh the land out, so here’s what I would do to accomplish that...
  • Most of the Tomorrowland Speedway space is reutilized as the show space for both a Pinocchio boat ride and an Alice in Wonderland maze
  • Nearby, an Alice restaurant (think the Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall at Tokyo) would both complement the Mad Tea Party and make the transition from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland, or vice versa, less awkward than it currently is
  • The Fairytale Gardens are repurposed as a meet-and-greet for any of the princesses (not just Merida), and the Princess Fairytale Hall space is used for another traditional dark ride - Sleeping Beauty’s Dream, a realization of the Sleeping Beauty ride that was meant to be the MK’s Snow White analog before it was decided to build new versions of the pre-existing Disneyland dark rides
  • Peter Pan’s Flight and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh both get refurbishments like what was done to most of Disneyland’s Fantasyland dark ride suite, with enhanced special effects and projections (Pan also gets a touched up village exterior [as does the rest of “old” Fantasyland] and four-seater ships [like at Paris and Shanghai] replacing the original two-seaters)
  • Refurbish The Little Mermaid ride to fix the problems currently plaguing it and make it look less cheap
  • “it’s a small world” is moved to the pad next to TRON (the pond here is filled in to accommodate it)...
  • ...as is the fireworks launch pad, to allow the patch of land behind New Fantasyland to be used and link it to the new land which will be detailed below. Here, North Mountain from Frozen would loom over Fantasyland, give it its own unique E-ticket, and allow for a transition from there to Shadowland (a covered bridge is built over the backstage road running between both areas), while an improved Tangled area anchored by a C-ticket Tangled dark ride sits nearby
  • In the original “small world” space, a D/E-ticket Mary Poppins dark ride is added and the existing Village Haus and Tangled restroom facilities are rethemed to tie in with it and Peter Pan, forming a Jolly London area

Tomorrowland

S.W. Wilson’s 2012 “east side renewal” hosted most of what I would elect to do:
  • Sonny Eclipse is moved to a new restaurant located on the remainder of the former Speedway space
  • In-between the Carousel of Progress and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin could be the entrance to a major E-ticket (could be KUKA, EMV, or LPS), taking place in the Solar System Cineplex, along the Tomorrowland Super Highways/Hoverburbs, or on Planet Zirconium/Zork
  • The Stitch’s Great Escape! and Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor venues are home to, respectively, an attraction with a virtual reality component and a Timekeeper revival
  • As @Brer Panther suggested, the focus of Space Ranger Spin is changed from being shrunk to the size of a toy to being on an adventure with the Buzz Lightyear that the Toy Story character is a toy of
  • Space Mountain is given a major reimagining, like what Krosnick pitched in his buildout
  • Similarly, Tomorrowland Terrace is also redone as the Star-Gazers’ Club, a table service restaurant

Shadowland

All-new land on most of the space on the northern expansion pad behind the rerouted Railroad
  • Bald Mountain (E-ticket coaster)
  • Cruella’s Chaotic Chase (C-ticket Fantasyland-style dark ride)
  • A B-ticket flat ride or two would also be among the land’s ride roster, but exactly what it/they would be I don’t know as of yet
  • The Raven’s Nook, Bean, Book & Candle, the Dark Wood Tavern, and the Oogie Boogie Boutique would be among the dining and shopping venues in town

Other

  • A new nighttime parade would be much appreciated...
  • ...and so would bringing back roaming characters

Awesome jobs guys!

It's fun to see other people's takes and opinions. Sometimes people do things with a park Tweak or Re-Do that you wouldn't expect and you wouldn't think of.

These are for World Showcase:

The entrance of World Showcase now has the flags of Alaska, Canada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, Cambodia, The UK, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, New Zealand, France, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, India, Japan, the USA, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Mali, China, Sweden, Norway, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Panama flying at the entrance to show what countries are being represented surrounding a slowly rotating globe fountain made of stained glass.

Canada, now renamed to The North due to representing Alaska Native and Native American cultures along with Canadian First Nations cultures, gets The Raven Tales Potlatch, a projection/animatronic hybrid show themed to Raven Tales of the Pacific Northwest Natives of Canada, Alaska, and the United States within the Native American Plank House and a nearby Kwakwaka'wakw Longhouse holds Flight Of The Hoxhok, an interactive show based on the traditional dances of the Kwakwaka’wakw in which guests dance along wearing small half face masks that can open and close based on the long beak of the mythical Hoxhok Bird using authentic steps that are taught to them before the songs along with the bird's fall of “HAP! HAP! HAP!” which means “EAT EAT! EAT!” in the Kwakwaka’wakw language. The half face masks, made of plastic, can be kept as souvenirs. Despite the use of the Hoxhok bird, the show has little to do with the Hamatsa ceremony due to how sacred it is to the Kwakwaka’wakw people. Rather, it tells the story of a nest of Hoxhok birds with fledglings, portrayed by the guests, learning to fly and swoop on prey from their parents, portrayed by Kwakwaka’wakw dancers. It will tell the story, written by Kwakwaka’wakw tribal elders, in a culturally sensitive way while still keeping it fun and engaging for all involved. The main attraction is Canada: Far And Wide, a dark ride taking guests through Canadian History.

Millennium Village is replaced with Cambodia, themed as a jungle filled with ruins of the once great Khmer Empire which guests can explore.

UK is redesigned into The British Isles and gets four subsections: England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. England has a Mary Poppins Carousel, a dark ride taking guests on a tour of Victorian London, a replica of Stonehenge, and a castle based on Hampton Court, Scotland serves as a meet and greet for Merida along with a peaceful ride taking guests through the Highlands, Wales holds a walkthrough based on The Black Cauldron with an animatronic Red Dragon similar to Paris, and Ireland has a ride based on Irish mythology and an Irish pub.

International Gateway is replaced with New Zealand, set in the fictional town of Mahuta, New Zealand located on the Fiordlands. Guests inside of Fiordland Holiday, home to a forest exhibit and Aquarium, can see several indigenous animals of the island, like Albatross, Pitoitoi, Tui, Piwakawaka (Fantail) , Kakapo, Kiwi, Pukeko, Blue Duck, Fiordland Penguin, Takahe, Brown Teal Ducks, Weka, Yellow Crown Parakeet, Little Blue Penguin, Yellowhead, NZ Falcon, Jeweled Gecko, Black And Red Coral, Hector's Dolphin, Hooke's Sea Lion, Weta, and even a skeleton of the extinct Moa bird and Haast Eagle! Guests can also explore a Māori marae, or meeting ground. Guests can enter the Wharenui, or meeting house, which has many Māori ambassadors who explain things to guests, like the concepts of Marae, Iwi (Extended family group owning a Marae), Whānau (Family), and Māori idioms. Guests can fly authentic Māori kites, or Manu Tukutuku, sample Kūmara, or sweet potato, grown in the nearby gardens during the season of Matariki, see and hear Waiata, or Māori songs with dance, look at the Māori night sky, and see red, black, and white paper stars hanging. Guests can also view the Māori's famous ornate carvings, see the beautiful Kowhaiwhai on the Wharenui, and watch and learn some Long Poi dances. At night, a Kapa Haka dance show is held with poi, rākau, and haka dances! A restaurant is inside the meetinghouse, called Hāngi. A Hāngi is a Māori gathering with traditional foods. Guests can eat Kūmara, Kamokamo (squash), potatoes, lamb, and Puha (Sowthistle). Guests can also buy greenstone pendants in Pounamu, visit the Kowhaiwhai Gallery, view woven Tukutuku, and view a Cook Islands Tīvaevae Karakara (Piecework Quilt). Outside of the marae, guests can see sheep on green fields, volcanoes, snowy mountains, caves with twinkling lights, a marsh, and even a large waterfall! Guests can ride through these beautiful scenes on the New Zealand Cruise, a Storybook Land Canal Boat inspired ride with no guide. Guests ride Māori Waka canoes through the mountains, fields, glowworm caves, volcanic areas, marshes, and forests of New Zealand! A special emphasis is placed on the nature of New Zealand. Another attraction is at a small area of water representing Te Whanganui a Tara, or The Wellington Harbor. It is a boat based dark ride that tells the heartwarming tale of a taniwha named Ngāke, who formed the harbor. Ngāke, unlike most Taniwhas, cared about the humans who lived along his river. One day, the people were hungry due to failure to catch fish, Ngāke helped the people! He enchanted their fish hooks so that they always got fish, even when others didn’t. Ngāke would later help form the harbor in Wellington. A walkthrough attraction is a replica of the Anawheku Caves! During Matariki, the Māori new year, the section goes through a decorated overlay.

France gets a new immersive walkthrough based on the Parisian Catacombs and a dark ride taking guests on a madcap tour of 1900s Montmarte, which was a district of art home to big names such as Gertrude Stein and Pablo Picasso, then an unknown artist, in those days.

The Morocco Pavilion and the two empty plots near it are replaced by The Mystic East, a land based on Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, India, Morocco, and Middle Eastern, Indian, and Egyptian history/myths. Egypt is represented by a replica of the Sphinx and an exact replica of the Great Pyramid at Giza complete with having a volume of 18,069,333.33333 cubic cubits, a height of 54,208 cubits, and a base measuring 440 cubits. Within it, guests can view replicas of Egyptian artifacts such as the Rhind Papyrus, eat Egyptian meals, explore a replica Egyptian tomb, and board a Nile River Cruise to see the sights of Egypt. Iraq is represented by a replica of Hammurabi's Code, one of the world's first written law codes, in Akkadian with a sign holding English translations and a replica of Babylon where guests can try and solve cuneiform math problems. Jordan is represented by a replica of Petra holding an interactive Last Crusade themed walkthrough attraction taking guests through the story of the film as if they were a main character who followed Indy the whole way from Marshal College to Venice and rom Venice to Petra. Morocco, now absorbed into The Mystic East, stays the same except for the Restaurant Marrakesh, which becomes a dark ride themed to a Casbah haunted by spirits from Arabian and North African mythology. India is represented by a replica of the Taj Mahal with accurate measurements, a Bollywood dance show, a ride taking guests through the richest city in India, Chandigarh, 3 statues in a traditional Indian style depicting Sine, Cosine, and Tangent to honor the man who thought them up, Aryabhata, a ride through the Himalayas including Mount Everest, and a rapids ride themed to the Chenab River, complete with a replica of the Chenab Rail Bridge.

Japan gets the Mount Fuji ride, but instead of a coaster it's a dark ride based on the Yokai in Japanese mythology.

The American Adventure gets an audio quality update and a new section dealing with Native American life before the Europeans came.

Italy gets a Pompeii walkthrough leading up to a Colosseum/Pantheon themed building home to a dark ride based on Roman history.

The area between Germany and France is replaced by Switzerland, themed to an Alpine village at the foot of the Matterhorn. The Matterhorn holds a bobsled coaster based on Swiss folklore.

Germany gets the Rhine River Cruise and a replica of Neuschwanstein Castle with a walkthrough.

The African Outpost is renamed to Equatorial Africa and gains a treehouse observation deck atop a fake baobab tree, a show with audience participation featuring West African drummers, and a replica of the Mosque of Djenne in Mali holding a ride based on the Anansi Tales.

China gains an omnimover dark ride based on a classic work of Chinese Literature called The Journey To The West and a replica of the Great Wall Of China.

Norway is redesigned into Scandinavia, gets an updated Maelstrom, and gains an annual Jokkmokk Winter Market based on the one in Sweden during the holidays.

Mexico, now redesigned into Latin America, has a boat ride themed to Aztec and Mayan mythology, a Dia De Los Muertos walkthrough, a replica Panama Canal, and an Encanto walkthrough garden. The Odyssey is replaced by an area of Latin America themed to Peru. This area takes guests to an Andean village with an open air market, restaurants serving Peruvian food, and the Ancient Ruins of the Coricancha, Chullpa, Pisac, and Pirka that act as the queue for Qhapaq Ñan, a dark ride that takes guests back in time to the great Quechua empire of Tawantinsuyu, or the Inca Empire to modern people, to follow the great Inca road of Qhapaq Ñan through the four Inca suyus, or regions, Chinchaysuyu, Antisuyu, Collasuyu, and Contisuyu. Guests load vehicles painted like Inca textiles and go off to the gorges of Chinchaysuyu, crossing a rope suspension bridge, before proceeding to the rainforests of Antisuyu, where feather clad locals can be seen drinking from Kero cups, harvesting quina bark, and giving their babies red and black Wayruro seeds. The next scene is Collasuyu, home to several chullo hat wearing llama/alpaca farmers and their livestock. The final scene is Contisuyu, the coastal region where chaski messengers bearing quipus, shell gatherers, and fishermen dwell.

Hi, I wanted to join the fun, hope that is alright.

I agree a lot with @Bryan_the_Imagineer

I would:

- Restore the Backlot studio themes and bring back, and add more of, the guardrails that would designate when you were "on set" and "off set." The earful tower is rebuilt
- Bring back the Great Movie Ride with new updates incorporating more modern films, perhaps remove the gangster scene for something different.
- Add a Indiana Jones coaster themed to either the mine carts in TOD or the motorcycle chase in TLC (the former being indoor, the latter being outdoor), while keeping Epic Stunt Spectacular, but retheming it to a different Indy film just to freshen things up.
- Toy Story Land and the remains of Pixar Place are demolished in favor of a new, smaller Backlot tour, Walt Disney Presents/Walt Disney's One Man Dream is included in this little Backlot land.
- Star Wars Land is split into three distinct areas themed around each trilogy. ROTR stays, Millennium Falcon Smuggler's run is rethemed to the Original Trilogy, and a third attraction themed to the Prequel trilogy is added near Ogas cantina. Characters from the Clone Wars, Rebels, Book of Boba Fett, Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan Kenobi make appearances roaming the land.
- Mama Melroses becomes Gonzo's Pizza Pandemonium and the Great Muppet Movie Ride is built behind it.
- Hollywood and Vine is rethemed to be a Roger Rabbit inspired bar.
- An updated Sorcery in the Sky and Stars and Motorcars parade make their return.
- A small fountain is placed in front of the Chinese Theatre.
- Rock N Rollercoaster is rethemed to the Rocketeer, with a Seven Seas club ts restaurant built next to it.
- something happens to Sounds Dangerous and Frozen, I just don't know what... the busts return outside that building
- The Carthay circle facade is enhanced and Snow White's Enchanted Wish is built there.
-Theater of the Stars is torn down in favor of the Egyptian theater. Inside is a fantasia themed dark ride
- Finally, Launch Bay becomes MMRR, voyage of the little mermaid is updated for the live action movie, and the Soundstage restaurant returns to the Disney Junior space

And in a perfect world it becomes Disney-MGM Studios again

Beat me to it

Here’s mine

  • New show in Tree of Life
  • Retheme Rainforest Cafe (it’s a national chain)
  • Retheme Planet Watch to North America (remove petting zoo and add a dark ride if there’s space)
  • Give Safaris and Rapids better stories
  • Replace Nemo with a jungle book show
  • Dinoland to South America: retheme boneyard to dig site, dinosaur with indy (maybe keep some dinos), retheme spinner to a flying jaguar ride, add Encanto casita ride (Vekoma madhouse)
  • And for that land behind Asia, add beastly kingdom and connect to NA
  • If the park doesn’t have a nighttime fireworks show, add one themed to disney animal characters

Animal Kingdom:

1. Keep Dinosaur, Restaurantosaurus, and the Boneyard and turn it into a mini Dinoland USA. Add a small walk-through close by based around the institute to give it a more serious academic institutional vibe.
- Dinosaur retains nearly the exact same script but casts new actors to play the roles of Dr Marsh and Dr Grant Seeker. The exit is rerouted. The attraction is renamed back to CTX
2. Dino-Rama and the theatre in the wild plot becomes Dragon Kingdomme with attractions based on Raya and the Last Dragon and Elliot from Pete's Dragon, as well as references to other Disney dragons like Figment, the Reluctant Dragon etc. A vekoma flying coaster is the main e ticket of the land
3. A show about Walt Disney and conservation is added in the tree of life theatre.
4. Mickey's Jammin Jungle Parade returns
5. Add a third attraction to Pandora The World of Avatar, this time its a water based attraction similar to the Splash Mountain ride system. Featured are the gigantic whale like creatures from the 2nd film in animatronic form.
6. Bring back the tag line Nahtazu
7. Build a Lion King dark ride in Africa
8. Fix the yeti already.
9. Bring back the river cruises with a themed pandora tunnel
10. Add an additional train line to the Wildlife Express that tours Asia before returning to Harambe

We’re not done in Orlando, there’s still the Universal parks! (Also I’m not doing any water parks or Epic Universe because the former doesn’t need any changes except for BB needing another ride and the latter isn’t open yet)

Universal Studios FL

  • If Villain Con’s problems aren’t already fixed, fix them
  • Replace supercharged? Maybe?
  • Replace fear factor with a Harry Potter vr darkride as planned
  • Make a space/sci-fi themed area south of MIB (and replacing simpsons because that’s owned by disney) using that ride and et, and in that expansion pad put 1-3 attractions based on sci-fi IPs
  • Dreamworks still gets built
Islands of Adventure

  • Bring back the boats
  • Maybe add a grinch/lorax ride
  • Retheme lost continent but leave mythos mostly unchanged (this could easily be zelda with Poseidon being replaced by a Hyrule ride similar to flight of passage and there could be a castle attraction and a deku tree/Kokiri attraction)
  • Retheme Kong to a Jurassic park/world ride
  • Retheme toon lagoon to Nickelodeon (either avatar a la team legend’s project or spongebob)
  • Either keep super hero island as marvel or retheme it to dc comics (Spider-Man to batman, hulk to joker or Superman, etc)
I don’t need to say this again but put your ideas in the description

I'd like it if they actually had some of those cool old movies. They sell Jaws and the old King Kong t-shirts and stuff, but they don't still have their attractions. Which is wicked funky (in a bad way) man.
