Tusker House for lunch?

Just wondering how good the food is. I read the menu but it doesn't sound appealing. I know sometimes the menu doesn't do them justice. We are only doing one day in Ak (EMH 8:00-7:00pm) and my original plan was to have breakfast at tusker around 10 am (so we can do the safari first thing). Then yak and yeti for lunch at 2:00 and hoop dee doo for 7:15. I'm afraid having three reservations will waste a lot of park time. We plan on driving to the park to avoid the bus lines at the end of the day.

The breakfast at the Tusker House is the Donald Safari Show and if not the best of the overall (Food & Characters) breakfast shows, it's right up there (our personal fav). As for lunch we prefer Yakl & Yeti over Tusker House. I don't know if you really want to do two buffets in one day, and the food at Tusker is uninspiring.

Since your driving you might want to book your breakfast before the park actually opens to save some time, and do the safari right after that, thats what we do!

The EMH is in the morning so I do believe the reservations start at 8:00 am. I want to give yak and yeti another try. Last year we ate there and wasn't impressed with our main dish but the desserts were the best we had that week. Yeah so I want to go back basically for the dessert. Lol.

we used to eat at tusker house every time we were in AK. we enjoyed the food very much. there was a great variety including many african inspired flavors that you won't get elsewhere. and a very nice dessert station. now that it's a character event, we haven't eaten there. i assume the food is the same ? i say go for it, it's a very different experience.

I was thinking about making our hoop dee doo reservation for the 9:30 show but I do remember seeing announcements about the late shows getting canceled. I'm assuming if they don't have enough reservations and we are going in September during a slow time

Food is actually very good at Tusker House. Too bad that the made lunch a character event and ruined the place. We won't be going back. From now on it's "Yak and Yeti" for us.

noticed you you are going to Hoop Dee Doo, you will have to plan on a bus ride at the campground as there is no car parking at Hoop only in the front. it is about a mile walk if you are thinking about that. plan on al least an hour between leaving AK and getting to Hoop. the bus will stop at the loops that guests are staying at on the way there. you can take any of campground buses but can take 20 minutes between buses and with the closing of AK more guests will be heading back to their sites. after show you will be waiting for the busback to front with the buses waiting to take guests back to resorts again plan on extra time

We are staying at Wilderness Lodge and will go back there and then onto Hoop dee doo.

. I was afraid of that. We will try the African cuisine at Sanaa.
I think we are going to pass on tusker house. If we did breakfast three reservations would be too much. We will just stick to yak an yeti reservations and hoop dee doo for the 7:15 show. We can drive back to our the wilderness lodge where we are staying and take the boat to fort wilderness since its not much of a walk from the dock.

They do have some exotice fare, but they also offer many of the more American foods available on the menu. Like:

Macaroni and cheese
Corn dog nuggets
Peanut butter and jelly on white and whole wheat
Chicken drumsticks
Mashed potatoes
green beans
Ham, Turkey and cheese cold cut platter
Carver top sirlion roast
Carved pork loin roast
Fresh Fruit

I hope you enjoy the breakfast @ Tusker House. They have a good variety of food compared to many other buffets and we have always had good service and plenty of food.

Sanaa is also a great restaurant. Ask for a window seat when you check in. The animals can be quite entertaining at times.
