Trip Report Tu in ‘25

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tu in ‘25

These lyrics came to mind when I thought about my trip reporting. (I also thought, Here we go AGAIN but the above sounds much more poignant.) It’s now that time of year when my Disney trips are frequent. And this Disney Senior loves sharing her visits with y’all because your engagement makes it fun!

Yes, there will be stuff that’s the same. Yes, there will be surprises (too soon for the reveals). And yes, there will be sun rises!

Spring break countdown is at 4 days.

Since this intro needs a picture, here are Tu.

The week before vacation is always a whirlwind of preparation, packing and last-minute shopping. There’s also excitement - and for those in a school environment like Em, a readiness for a break from students and staff. As tempting as it is to leave for WDW the moment the bell rings, we are savvy enough to wait a day or so to avoid the terrible traffic caused by other metro Atlantans heading south.

This morning’s excitement was palpable - we were finally on our way!

That is once I was able to pick up the last of the bags being carefully guarded by Poly, who was not a fan of being abandoned.

Em started in the driver’s seat and we encountered heavier-than-normal traffic for an early Sunday morning. Typically we can get in and out of Buc-ee’s quickly but today the place was NUTZ!

Once across the Florida border Em became the co-pilot and was able to snap the quintessential picture of the entrance gate at 1:45 pm.

(You do know there are several entrance gates to WDW property that look like this?)

Our first order of business is to fuel up the car. That way we don’t have to make a trip to a gas station before heading home. Unfortunately the most convenient station is the Speedway near The Boardwalk, where ride share drivers hang out -- some having the audacity to park in front of the pumps, blocking paying customers from using them. Today we got lucky, as there was one open pump I was able to back into.

The stress of traveling melted away the moment we stepped into the Wilderness Lodge lobby. We were home!

IMG_5908.jpeg

(Spoiler alert - I will be wearing this tee at the appropriate resort later this year.)

I had originally booked a Bounceback offer for this week at POR. When I learned the mansions (our preferred section) were undergoing refurbishment, I kept my eyes peeled for alternate resorts. When AP discounts dropped and I saw WL was available, I hurriedly contacted Em to see if she wanted to pay a little more to make the switch.

To her it was a no-brainer. “I like being “resorty” was her reply.

We went to Roaring Fork to get a snack since we hadn’t eaten since breakfast. As it was nearing the three o’clock hour, we hoped to get our room text while we were there enjoying the outdoors.

IMG_5909.jpeg

It didn’t happen. Rooms being ready by 3 pm seem to have gone the way of the dinosaur. Sitting there for who knows how much longer felt like a waste of time to me. “Let’s go over to the Magic Kingdom for a little while,” I suggested.

We noticed the boardwalk to the dock had undergone some “value engineering.”

Why replace the entirety when some planks are good enough? seems to fit with Disney’s current business plan.

Traffic has been awful going down. Added an extra 1 1/2 hrs this trip to us.
Loving the Tuvalu shirt girlfriend!
The renovations at POR didn’t bother us. We saw them working but they were all quiet. It was still packed with people though. Our last day, a ton of dance groups showed up. We were ready to leave.
I think if you get your room before 5 you’re lucky these days.

The boat had recently docked and we were the last to board. Score one for perfect timing!

We made it into the park and through the train tunnel to catch the end of the Festival of Fantasy parade.

As we meandered down Main Street we discussed what to do. Stopping to admire the Castle was first. It's amazing how much the paint has faded over the last 5 years.

No complaints from me though. I am a light gray traditionalist and have always disliked a pink castle. The pink is less extreme now.

We opted to go to Liberty Square and visit the Happy Haunts. Even if it meant a bit of a wait.

IMG_5916.jpeg

Although no one was exiting. 🤔

IMG_5917.jpeg

As we zig-zagged through the queue I noticed a humorous tee on a boy who looked to be about 8 years old.

I have selective hearing.
I'm sorry you were not selected.

(Although that phrase would probably be more appropriate on an adult tee!)

Em and I waited less than the posted time to enter the Mansion. We were instructed by the host to, "Step lively! Your time will expire shortly!"

IMG_5919.jpeg

Our doom buggy paused above the ballroom. Thank you, playful spooks! 👻🩷

On the way to our next attraction we popped into (Mickey’s) Star Traders to check out the merch.

I had a 90s flashback when I saw this shirt.

IMG_5936.jpeg

My son wore this one during the 25th anniversary celebration in 1996. (The era of the Pepto Bismol pink castle cake. No wonder I am scarred for life by a pink castle!)

IMG_8042.jpeg

The shop also contained a happy surprise. On my birthday trip in February I had seen a sweatshirt (ironically, pink!) which captured my heart. Only a few stores carried it, but only in XS. Woody and I even made a special trip to World of Disney to search for one in my size without success.

Though it was a toasty 80 degrees, Em convinced me to buy it. I figured I wouldn't wear it during our trip but could wear it on a chilly spring day at home. Thus I left it in our car (a mistake!) when we retrieved our luggage to take up to the room.

IMG_9640.jpeg

The room ready notification finally arrived. We enjoyed our bird's eye view of Tomorrowland before catching the WL bus, which was waiting in the gate. (Score two!)

Getting to a 2nd or 3rd floor room on the non-DVC side of the lodge can be a challenge. The lobby elevator can’t get you there, since the lobby is on the second floor and the third floor is DVC only.

Which means guests in those rooms must enter the lobby, walk down the ramp to the first floor, pass Roaring Fork then turn left for the elevator.

Our room was at the very end of the hall after exiting the elevator. It was a hike!

But the room was very close to boat transportation (via the stairwell) and convenient to the pools. Loved the view!

IMG_5946.jpeg

We had a king room next door to the room we stayed in last June. The layout was reversed.

After unpacking and settling in we decided to get dinner. We chose the ease of Roaring Fork. It had become too humid to dine al fresco so we sat inside in air conditioned comfort.

IMG_5943.jpeg

A oversized (shareable) smoked turkey sandwich with homemade chips hit the spot.

Roaring Fork has moved mobile order pick-up and the condiment/napkins/flatware station to outside the restaurant, a more sensible location. Em commented about the cute canoe holders!

We concluded our evening with a long sit on the balcony.

This morning we wanted to follow after @wdisney9000 and be in Epcot in advance of 8:30 am early entry. I was watching the bus arrival time on the app and we got to the bus stop just as the driver was preparing to close the door.

THE BUS WAS 5 MINUTES EARLY!

Now I am all in favor of waiting less for an attraction than the posted wait time, but a bus arrival is different. Not only was our bus early, the bus left WL two minutes BEFORE it was even supposed to arrive.

At the very least an early arriving bus should wait at the stop until the posted arrival time. Especially in the morning when folks are trying to make early entry!

Em and I were thankful we made it on board. It enabled us to be inside the park at 8 am.

FullSizeRender.jpeg

Early entry guests still veer off to the right to be scanned in, but the rope drop procedure for both resort and non-resort guests has been slightly tweaked.

IMG_5952.jpeg

The area around Spaceship Earth has been split in half, with non-resort guests on the left side of the stanchions. There are more stanchions (and CMs) further up which prevent access to attractions prior to official opening time.

IMG_5953.jpeg

Resort guests walk along the right side of SSE and can head toward Living Seas, The Land and Imagination. Those wanting GotG or Mission:Space are guided into the breezeway between Connections and Creation Shop. Frozen and Remy riders continue towards World Showcase. There are CMs with directional signs to help with the process.

IMG_5955.jpeg

We made it into the holding pen at 8:06 am.

IMG_5958.jpeg

In just 21 minutes, the real fun would begin.
