TTC at Night

Hi All! Longtime lurker, first time poster. Love this site! Just a random question that always bugged me. Does the TTC get locked down at night? Just wandering what would keep a guest from the Poly (right next door) from walking down the path and hanging out at the TTC after closing? Same thing with MK...although I'm pretty sure there is a guard booth on the walkway from the CR.

I know this is so random. Guess it's my background in Criminal Justice that makes me so curious to know how they secure that area.

Thanks!

A couple thoughts -- TTC is dingy, dirty, and crowded with people until very wee hours of the morning -- there isn't much to lock down there...as to Poly people walking down there to "hang out" -- well, they can, but I don't think most people that stay at Poly would be caught dead hanging out in a bus parking lot, even during the day...Derelicts get ushered along by security.

MK has a chain that gets closed along the front, and there is security there all the time. People use the walkways between the hotels 24/7 -- again, there is nothing there to "lock down"...even if one jumps the chain, you can't get beyond the entrance turnstyles, but security would have long stopped them by that point anyway. People walk along there all the time and (in wee hours of the morning) plenty of couples can be found making-out along the Ferry docks...

Again, WDW isn't like the real world...people that stay on property aren't really out there to cause trouble...It's one of the few placed I have ever stayed that the resort hallways are pretty much silent by midnight with very rare exception...I don't think it would cross most people's minds to go hang out at the TTC late at night, for example.

Interesting info...thanks so much! The gates at MK...are they before you reach the turnstiles? Trying to picture in my head where they are but drawing a blank.

There is a chain drop that shuttles you hourglass style toward either the bag check areas to the right and left, or toward the center "guest with no bags" area. There is then a good 50 to 100 feet area between there and the turnstyles.

How long can you stay in the parks after they close? I see people who post photos with noone in them at all at night, which leads me to believe they are in there well into the night after the park closes.

I know when I worked at the shops at the front of the park(on the way out), the shops usually stay open for an hour after the official posted close time. But I am sure there are lolly-gaggers that take their time leaving the parks and thats how they got those pics!

It differs by park, but security generally starts their sweep at the back of the parks about an hour after official closing time. The main gift shop in each park are open at least an hour after close. Epcot often has late diners in the restaurants 60-90 minutes after park closing time. And because they keep attraction queues open until official park closing time (anyone who gets in line before closing time will get to ride), there can easily be an hour's worth of riders still waiting in line at some of the more popular attractions.

You can hang out toward the front of the parks for 90 minutes or more most nights. Security usually won't force people out, but if there are people really lingering, at some point Security will kindly-but-firmly suggest that it's time to leave.

Back when they did the propane "blowoff" of the Illuminations Inferno Barge after all the other barges were put away, I stayed in World Showcase just to to see it a couple times (typically it was 90 minutes after closing time). I just made my way very, very slowly from Mexico over to the International Gateway bridge, taking photos of the empty pavilions along the way. Security understood what I was waiting for, and I made sure to let them know I'd be heading out to Boardwalk right afterward.
(Though the blowoff doesn't happen that way anymore. They incorporated it into the final blast of fire during the show)

As for the MK entrance, there are heavy-duty gates across the tunnels under the train station. I presume they get closed every night. So even if you hopped the turnstiles, you wouldn't get any farther.
I know there are similar gates at the Studios, and I presume Epcot and Animal Kingdom have gates, too, but I can't visualize them at the moment.

There is no need to secure TTC at night because it never really shuts down. Transportation Base, the check in/out office for transportation cast members, is located at TTC and cast members typically pass through the area at all hours of the night due to the insanely-late hours that monorail and bus closers work. Third-shift maintenance is also out there at least a few nights a week to power wash everything and do whatever else needs doing. There is also a regular security patrol that passes through the area, primarily out of concern for lost or stranded guests rather than troublemakers. And of course, security cameras are everywhere at WDW and are monitored 24/7.

So, while there are no physical obstructions to prevent resort guests from sneaking into the TTC at night, they will almost certainly be noticed if they do. Seeing as how the TTC is arguably the least appealing public area at WDW, I doubt there are many people who bother to try.
