Trying to rent points: can 15 months ahead of time be "too late" already?

I'm hoping some DVC folks can help me out with this one. I submitted a reservation request form to David's DVC Rentals for a 2-BR Villa at WL for the first week in May 2014, a little over 14 months away. I got a response saying there was no availability, and offering us alternatives consisting of villas at the three least popular DVC resorts.

Does this really mean that the Wilderness Lodge villas are already "booked solid" this far ahead of time? Should I try again later to see if something has "opened up," or does this mean we're just out of luck? Is there a particular point at which reservation-holders are most prone to canceling, perhaps creating some availability? We really had our heart set on this resort, but our dates are not flexible.

I just called David's via the (800) number provided in my e-mail, and it looks like my thread is now moot. (In other words, Moderator, please feel free to delete this thread.) Apparently the "no availability" e-mail David's sent to me was a mistake. The David's agent who checked availability misread the request as being for May 2013, instead of May 2014.

I'm just a little too early is all, and will have to resubmit my reservation request nearer to the 11-months-ahead mark. By the by, the David's rep I talked to (Melissa) was extremely friendly and helpful. Her responsiveness gave me additional reassurance that this is a company we'll enjoy working with.

I don't see a need to delete the thread, it is a good question for people looking to rent. The earliest that DVC can be booked is 11 months out - and that is at an owners home resort. The earliest a person can book at a non-home resort is 7 month. An aggrigation site like David's has many different owners, so chances are all resorts will be available at 11 months. However if you are renting directly from an owner, understand what resort they own at, and that if you are looking to get into a popular resort at a popular time that they do not own at, there is a chance they may not be able to get it at 7 months out.

We rented from Davids too at 11 months out but our first choice was not available. It all depends upon the inventory they have at the time.

The other thing to remember is DVC owners can only book 11 months prior to check in date for their home resort and 7 months prior to check in for all other DVC resorts. So while David might have points that will work for May 2014 you will have to wait at least three more months before they can attempt to make the reservation.
