Tron Attraction?

As far as longevity is concerned with the new Tron movie, Disney is already rumored to be working on a sequel or potentially a trilogy for Legacy. I realize it is a rumor, but in the remake/reboot/sequelize world that we live in, if this film does even moderately well, we all know it will happen. This is a sequel to a film almost thirty years after the fact. They will capitalize on it immediately this time.

Well, sure. And at one point Disney planned to make all the Narnia movies too.

They are preparing to make Tron sequels. But if Legacy doesn't do blockbuster biz, those plans will be scrapped. No doubt Tron will do respectable business. But I think it is a long way from a sure-fire hit.

In a word, no. It would be fun and interesting but I don't think it would happen for 4 main reasons:
1. Disney doesn't know if it has staying power. If it has great ridership in the first year or so then great, but that doesn't mean the movie will be memorable or culturally relevant 2 or 3 years down the line.
2. There's no real space in Tomorrowland. The only rides I can feasibly see TDO getting rid of would be Buzz Lightyear, or Indy Speedway, all the other spaces are being used by reasonably popular attractions or spaces too small for anything more then they have now.
3. What would it be based on. While Tron Legacy is getting a lot of good PR they'd still need a good idea on which to base it, it would also need to be workable as a ride vehicle.
4. It would open way too late. Tron Legacy opens in December, with the FLE and the MI coaster happening soon the earliest the ride would open would be some time in 2013-2014, even if they by some miracle got it up by 2012(the projected opening of MI coaster) it would still be seen as a ride based on a 2 year old movie, and since the MI coaster is only moving forward because the movie will release near the ride opening(not to mention the apparent staying power of MI as a franchise as proven by the Laugh Floor's popularity) the Tron ride would need to be in planning stages now and be in partial construction by July/August in order to be relatively recent.

1. You do realize that point one conflicts with point three? If you had to wait two to three years to see if it was "culturally relevant", then it would fall victim to point four. And as stated, Tron does have a cult following, coupled with a large box office take would be more than enough to justify an attraction. And, if the attraction is done right, it will keep Tron relevant.
2. You think getting rid of Buzz is feasible???!!! That would make no sense. Now, moving the speedway to Epcot by TT, that might make sense if there is room.
3. Are you familiar with Tron??!! The tron lightcycles would be the perfect vehicle choice, and tron world would provide the most incredible attraction environment ever if done properly.
4. Is the new little mermaid attraction based on a current movie? Was Splash Mountain based on a current movie? Besides, if things go according to plan, there will be multiple movies and a cartoon series, which will keep the property fresh. Besides, if the ride is good it won't matter that much anyway. A good ride could create interest in the property if it doesn't happen the other way around.

IMO there is no reason for Buzz with TSMM time for something new in that spot.

I guess you need to take more than one person's opinion then on this matter. Buzz is a very popular attraction. It's removal would make no sense considering the cost, the popularity of the attraction, the relative youth of the attraction, and the fact that other space can be used. Does this mean you would recommned tearing down cinderella castle because a new attraction is being built with a smaller castle?
Consider also you are comparing two different parks. Buzz fits perfect with the theme, and is the park's only interactive attraction. And while there are simularities between the two attractions, they are quite different in terms of theme. Buzz is only about buzz and his adventures battling Zurg, while the other attraction includes all of the characters in a carnival shooting gallery settting. This is no more repetitive than having two attractions with dinosaurs, having the jungle cruise and AK, or potentially two attractions with Monster's Inc.

At the least Buzz needs a major overhaul to bring it up to its counterpart in DL.

I'm not familiar with the CA version, so what makes it so much better. We went to WDW and enjoyed Buzz immensly. I didn't notice anything I would consider inferior, but then again that is without knowlege of the other version , and I wasn't looking for anything to critique anyway.

The targets are more immersive also the guns are removeable.

Thanks for illustrating your point so ably.

The difference is I'm not merly throwing out insults in the name of self indulgence. I'm all for a good, passionate debate about opposing views. Your comment added nothing to the conversation, and I had no problem calling you out to preserve that discussion.

Stitch was in place before the acquisition.

Fair enough, but wasn't buzz there before that? Since there were pixar rides before the acquistion, couldn't that mean there will be non-pixar rides after. Maybe I'm reaching, but I don't see anything that says only pixar rides will be built in tomorrowland.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.

My ego isn't large enough to allow the assumption that my opinion means anything to anyone other than myself and I post in that manner.

And no doubt what constitutes passionate debate is decided by you?

It would appear the discussion is doing just fine......

While I agree with you, the other thought I had was.. Why 'No Way!, the ride may not be relavant in a year!' that didn't stop them with stitch...

I was just going to say that. Yes stitch is popular with many ages but I see so many disappointed people getting off that ride. And if you do a tron ride(lets say with the lightcycles) people don't need to "love" the movie. So many rides are based off of movies people forget about for example? Splash Mountain I know the song zip-a-dee-do-da but have I ever seen song of the south? nope and I don't think most of the guest riding that ride have either. I would like for them to create a tron ride. There is room as mentioned before, where the restrooms are, stitch's great escape, etc.

Exactly. I bet 99% of guests have no idea where Zip a Dee Doo Dah originated from besides "Splash Mountain", but it's still a phrase just about everyone knows.

Not many people watch Lost, but isn't the smoke monster a reference that most people will know about? Or what about Star Wars referencing Chewbaca?

I think if it's main stream enough, people will not need to know point blank where it originated from. All they need to know is the bare minimum to understand the story.
