Trip Report Trip Report: Just back from a week at SSR

Great Trip, Kids loved it, however a few observations:
Resort: I am an RCI Member and was treated as such. Since I traded RCI points for DVC points, it seems there is an agreement to lesson the privileges of RCI members. So, I did not get regular made service, it was going to cost me extra for Towels, Linens, etc. I was very annoyed since I am a premium member of RCI.
The resort itself was just OK. The food choices, gift shop were substantially smaller then that of the moderate resorts. That was very disappointing.
Generally speaking, the resort was clean and the staff was nice.

Transportation: The buses were mostly a positive experience save for two trips. One was a before part hours trip to the Poly. The SSR cast members misinformed us on several fronts on what the proper procedure was for getting to the Polynesian Resort. We were told 3 different things. One was there was a bus with a character's name on it that would show up at the bus stations and we could tell them where we wanted to go and he/she would take us there directly. The second was that we could get a regular bus to the Magic Kingdom and then we could take a Monorail to the Poly. The third was that we could get regular bus to the TTC and we could take the Monorail to the Poly. Well we managed to get a bus to the Magic Kingdom and then when we got there the monorail was down for maintenance. A cast member said take a boat, but there weren't any boats at the dock, nor were there any coming. We found a Poly bus dropping off people, so the guy let us jump on board and he took us over there.
The second issue was a Magic Kingdom bus was 40 minutes late picking up at SSR. I was concerned that I was going to miss HDDR, but we actually gave ourselves 2.5 hours because it was a bus and boat ride.

Parks: Mostly a great experience here. The parks are not kept as clean as I remember, Lots of stuff on the ground in the parks, some stuff floating in some waterways etc. Sort of disappointing. There were many rides with broken down parts. For example, IASW seemed like there were several dolls either missing or not working. The sun didn't spin, the doll rolling on the wire wasn't even on the wire. Generally speaking, the parks were great, but not nearly as clean or working as well I expected. That expectation was set in 1981 and 1983.

Magical Express: No complaints, all worked perfectly!

Restaurants: No complaints, food was great everywhere we ate albeit with far fewer selections in some places.

General comments would be that the cost cutting measures of recent years has become very obvious!

You sound like a lunatic. What makes your dingleberries and better than his. Everyone is grown up to know that wash cloths and towels get wiped in certain areas....this is not news. A few of you wont stop beating a dead horse. A few of you don't agree with his towel etiquette we get it, all the readers get it the poster gets it! Move on. He had a good time at Disney!! Yeah!
I don't wipe mine on reusable towels. I use disposable things for that, or a loufa that only I use. Good grief. This is horrifying stuff.

A loufa? Who's the diva now? OK, I am officially done with this conversation. I am so glad you all focused on such a minor thing and not the rest of my trip. I can tell you that I will now hesitate when posting any kind of experience at WDW positive or negative. Mostly, I hope I neglect to post something that happens to me and all you that have given me grief will run into the same thing and have a tremendously bad experience at Disney! Thanks for making my postings much less then magical!

Dont let a few keep you away. I enjoyed your comments regarding your stay. Plus if they really knew all the things that have happen to hotel towels they'd never stay at another resort/hotel again.

Yeah, but when you just got out of the shower, those areas should be clean.

We didn't bring it up, he did. He's the one berating Disney for not accommodating his unusual needs by acting like his needs are not unusual.

This is my last comment because this is ridiculous and it's not even my post. He did not berate Disney actually it was only one sentence in five fairly large paragraphs. Here... I'll even quote it "So, I did not get regular made service, it was going to cost me extra for Towels, Linens, etc. I was very annoyed" So the man wants a new towel for every shower. So does half the people I know. Who gives a @#$%. He tried to explain himself but you and a few other won't let it go. The whole point is He likes Disney, Disney was Great, He was happy with his trip!

You cut out half the quote, and it was the very first line in the thread so obviously high in his mind. The full line was "it seems there is an agreement to lesson the privileges of RCI members. So, I did not get regular made service, it was going to cost me extra for Towels, Linens, etc. I was very annoyed since I am a premium member of RCI."

What he laid out was 1) entitled and 2) factually incorrect.

Ok Where did I berate Disney? And my needs are not unusual. I just like to be clean I guess. Using a towel after a shower takes that last bit of soap scum (which still includes dirt) off my body. I then like to make sure all that soap scum and dirt are removed from the towel. I am not sure how that is unusual!
Why are my cleaning habits under scrutiny. I said the entire week was a great experience and none of this detracted from my experience.

That is interesting. I called the front desk and they told me: "Due to the contract with RCI, you have to pay extra for this stuff". Honestly, we thought someone came in and folded the towels onto the racks, but they didn't appear to be new and the condo wasn't cleaned at all. I would think as a DVC member you would get more then a cash paying guest. I'd be ****ed that I am paying annual dues and don't get housekeeping. I am really trying to see the value of DVC over RCI or the value of timeshares in general.
At this point, I don't like the trend in Disney. We are DVC members. We are not happy with all the cuts. I wouldn't recommend to anyone today to go into DVC. So many cuts over the years. It's hard to justify. Just my opinion.

If I may ask...You seem extremely displeased with WDW. Why not just sell your DVC and save yourself all this angst?

Our grandkids and our kids love the place. I've been ready to sell, but I've been voted out each year. I don't hate Disney, in fact Our family has been going since it opened. We didn't buy DVC at that time, as we couldn't afford it. We bought a few years ago, and have seen many cuts. Not angry, as we have received our money back. I'm an old timer 68, and we've seen Disney change through the years, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. I wish I could love the new that is coming. I'm just not a Star Wars Fan. Pandora, the concept, I will reserve judgement on. I never saw the movie, and I don't know what to expect. I know Disney is supposed to change over the years. I would have preferred a large cars land, or Alice in Wonderland, bring back the Toads Wild Ride. Again, this is just my opinion. I'm happy that people have found joy in owning DVC. We did too, at one time, but the cuts are really getting to me. Not the family, just me. I didn't mean to make the first post so harsh.

Jackass, as I said, it isn't diva-ish it is a hypoallergenic issue. Holy good lord i can't believe everyone is getting up in my grill about getting a few extra towels for no charge. What the hell is the big deal.
Our Doctor, actually told us to never re use towels or wash cloth's , he said it was unsanitary. Just the Doctor's opinion. Interesting place this thread is treading.

I do agree, got the same advice from my doctor. To all those people that do, just imagine drying off your hidden parts and then put that exact same spot on the towel to your face the next day. I don't care how clean you are coming out of the shower, that is just gross!
