Trip Report including "Attack of the Seagulls"

Hello everyone! We just got back Wednesday night from another great trip. Here's the facts:

Dates : Saturday February 21st through Wednesday 25th
Hotel : Pop Century one night, Contemporary 3 nights
Party : 16 people, 8 adults, 8 kids

Here's the story:

Saturday, February 21st - We left Omaha at noon. It was like torture waiting for noon to get here. Good flights except the poor woman next to us :hurl: for the first 10 minutes of the flight. We arrived in the magic around 8:30. We stayed at Pop Century the first night because the Contemporary was full. It was fun. Felt just like the All Stars. The store and food court were packed at 10:00. It's amazing to me that people can wait to eat dinner at 10:00! As previously reported our air conditioner would not go below 68 but it did run all night contrary to a problem someone had mentioned. So we were comfortable.

Sunday, February 22nd - We checked out about 9:00 and headed to the Contemporay. We tried a walk up to Chef Mickey's and only had to wait about 20 minutes. The kids love Chef Mickey. I decided I prefer dinner to breakfast, just because it's hard to eat enough at breakfast to feel like I got my moneys worth. But it was delicious as always. After breakfast the kids played in the sand at the beach for a little while. Afterwards we checked in early and our rooms were ready. The Contemporary is beautiful. The rooms are huge and nicely decorated. The convenience of the hotel was incredible. The only thing that surprised me was the food court. It was tiny. I guess I'd only seen the value and moderate food courts before. The Contemporary's was fine, just small. We ate lunch there. After lunch we swam for a while. The pool was very nice. Later that evening we headed to Downtown Disney and ate at the Rainforest Cafe. Afterwards we shopped until bedtime. Back in our rooms, at 10:05 the floating electrical parade came by. I was shocked at how loud it was. I mean shocked. I could hear it loud and clear with my door shut, and the air going. My sister's kids had just fallen asleep and it woke them up. She wasn't remembering the magic when that happened !

Monday, February 23rd - MGM. We arrived at MGM at opening and headed right to Tower of Terror. It was about a 20 minute wait, not bad. We fastpassed RnR and headed off. The park felt a little crowded but in reality, after getting the two biggies taken care of, we didn't wait for anything all day. Someone in the millionaire show right before us won the cruise. In our show someone got in the hot seat for the 14th time. He said he'd missed the million point question before. We thought he was going to go all the way, but he didn't. Too bad. Fantasmic was great as always. After Fantasmic we headed to Disney Quest for a couple of hours. My kids love DQuest and had a great time. We got back to the room just in time for the booming floating parade again!

Tuesday, February 24th - Epcot. We arrived at Epcot at opening. We headed right for Test Track and fastpassed Mission Space. Test Track said 25 minute wait but it was closer to 10. Afterwards we headed to Mission Space and used our fast passes. No one in our party got sick, everyone enjoyed it, although a couple of us chickened out, and two people said once in a lifetime was enough :D ! The kids all loved it and rode it twice with the baby swappers in our group. Afterwards we caught the Character caravan and headed to the World Showcase.

Here's the attack:
On the way through the showcase we passed the McDonalds counter service in Canada and I stopped for some fries and nuggets for the kids. Everyone else kept walking so I started walking with the food to find them. It was then that I was literally attacked by seagulls. They were surrounding me and bombdiving and taking fries off my tray. I was running, laughing and screaming all at the same time. Yes, the movie Birds entered my mind. There weren't many people around and those who were just watched me not knowing what to do. I finally covered my tray enough they couldn't get anything and left me alone. I was a little traumatized.

Back to the day: While we were eating lunch the rains came. And came and came. We walked back to the Living Seas in a deluge. After we finished we took the monorail back to the room and put on dry clothes. The rain let up and we walked to Magic Kingdom. The 75 Mickeys were still up, they were great. It rained off and on all evening but we got a lot done. They canceled the Electric Parade right at starting time, even though it was a break in the rain. Wishes went off as scheduled. We went back to our rooms and prepared to watch the floating parade. It was also cancelled much to my sister's joy.

Wednesday, February 25th - Magic Kingdom. We had ressies at Cinderellas and when we woke up it was raining. The forecast was rain all day. We made plans with the rest of our party to hit some indoor things at MK then head to Disney Quest. The breakfast was wonderful as always. Sleeping Beauty was in her pink dress! That was the first time I'd seen her in that! I was excited because all the scrapbooking products I've seen have her in a pink dress, yet every time we see her she's wearing blue! Sorry, I'm rambling, almost done. When we left the breakfast the park had just opened and the rain had stopped :sohappy: . We covered all of Fantasyland in no time. The park was empty. The skies threatened rain all day and never did it. Space Mountain was a 10 minute wait, Big Thunder was 10, Buzz and everything else was a walk on. We didn't even use some of our fastpasses because when we went to use them there was no line!

We left the park and the rest of our party at 3:00 and headed to the airport. It was very sad. Post Disney depression. It's especially hard when the rest of your magical gathering is staying and you have to get the kids back to school. Oh well. I'll have to console myself with hopes of Disneyland in October and Disney Cruise in 05.

Thanks for reading!

Sounds so amazing to not have to wait in lines!!

And your restaurant selection seemed very good, yummy!

You saw the Electrical Pageant--were you in your room or on property somewhere? Tower or Garden wings?? Just wondering.

Sounds like you did have a fun trip, and though it rained, you still managed to do a lot and take part of the DQuest fun that I myself have never done with my family even though it comes highly reccommended to us from others.

And I know I got my monies worth from Chef Mickey's breakfast--just on the strawberries alone!!! Haha.

Thanks for writing.:xmas:

I meant the floating electrical parade. I didn't say that very well. We were in the North Garden Wing and it was right out our window.

And you're right, my son ate enough strawberries to pay for a couple of meals! Didn't think of that!

Great Trip

DF,

Sounds like you had a great time:sohappy: ! The bird story is great...should have told a CM and maybe they would have shown you some special magic.

I love going to WDW, but it's a team effort when kids are involved (to fight off the birds, you know). I noticed you didn't mention a significant other on the trip (although it sounds like you had extended family). I hope you had some help.

Thank you Alaskadude. My husband was on a business trip but I had lots of other family and friends there. Of course no one was around when the seagulls were there!

No Help

DF,

Wow, you went to WDW without the husband. He's probably one of those type A personalities who finds Disney too chaotic. That was good thinking timing your trip while he was away on business. Not that you missed him too much, what with Mickey and friends to spend time with (I noticed you didn't even mention your workaholic husband in your Trip Report). I mean priorities are priorities...business trips can wait, but WDW (especially staying at the A-frame) is a once in a lifetime event.

Oh now I must defend my husband's honor. This was military training, you can't put that off. He was quite sad we were going without him. He is definitely not a workaholic, he just took off 9 days to take us to the magic in October! He was actually very sweet to send us again so soon, with my family, when he couldn't go! Besides him being in the military got us into the lovely Contemporary at Shades of Green prices!

That was my own little Armed Forces Salute :sohappy: :sohappy: !

In the Army

DF,

OK, glad to hear your Army husband is supportive:wave: ! Maybe next time you should show him some love in your trip report...I mean, he paid for the trip, right?

We love our Army troops up here, and their families who support them. Don't forget to show a little magic to your deployed husband when he gets home.

Actually it's air force but you are so right! I should have given him tons of shout outs for financing our trip! Here's some right now ... :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: Thank you honey!

You rock, DF :king: ! I hope your husband realizes how lucky he is to have such a fun-loving, magic-seeking, good-looking wife. I assume that Stitch-looking character in your avatar is your husband, so he is truly blessed that you keep him around. If you're ever in Alaska, give me a shout  .

Thanks for the great trip report!

We had a close encounter with Disney birds ourselves a few years ago at Port Orleans in April. Apparently, the big black birds that live in the trees on property were nesting, and they attacked everyone who ventured near their chosen trees - in a most un-Disney fashion!

When i was in menorca (a small beautiful island off Spainish coast) a massive gull landed on my table and stole my two lovely chocolate biscuits.

I wasn't scared until it opened its wings to land on the table, they were MASSIVE! Still was very funny and cue much mocking from my girlfriend!
