So just a few highlights and thoughts from our trip to the World last week:
1) I WISH I WAS BACK THERE! lol
2) Overall, the parks were more crowded than I anticipated for the first week in March, but still quite doable. Epcot was particularly crowded on 3/2, but that was to be expected given the opening of the F&G Festival on 3/1. We arrived at DHS on Tuesday evening 3/1 at 6pm on a night with 7-10pm EMH. The waits for TOT and RnRC were only about 10-15 minutes at that point. By 8pm, the wait for TSMM was down to 40 minutes so we jumped on line at that point. Love that ride. By 9pm DHS was nearly empty, perhaps because the temperature had dropped into the 50s and people without jackets and pants were visibly cold.
3) The topiaries at the F&GF were beautiful. Such a treat to see them as well as the gorgeous flower beds by the entrance to the World Showcase. The butterfly garden was cool too.
4) Chicken-me tried a few rides for the first time this trip: My family assured me that I could tolerate the FP side of Space Mountain, but perhaps not the standby line version. I begrudgingly tried it, and after apologizing in advance to the 70+ year old man in front of me for the screaming I was about to do in his ears (LOL), I actually liked it – enough to do it a second time later in the day. On our final day at Disney, I was also talked into trying EE. If any of you heard my screams from wherever you live, I wouldn’t be surprised! Would I do it again? Maybe yes, but not more than once a trip. Perhaps the scariest ride of all was going on the Tea Cups with my daughter! LOL. Soarin’ still remains my favorite ride of all time.
5) It was really fun introducing my mom to Disney for the first time. We slowed our pace down just a tad for her, but she really kept up and had a blast.
6) It was neat to see Captain EO for the first time. I missed out on it in the 80s. The 3D effects weren’t as good as Muppets 3D or Tough To Be A Bug, but I’m really glad I was able to see this oldie but goodie.
7) The weather was cool in the mornings and evenings, and perhaps that is why I had the best safari ride I’ve ever had at AK. I saw more animals than I’d ever seen before, and I’m always on one of the first rides of the day. It was great because my husband and I had gone alone on a real safari in South Africa last summer, and we were able to give the kids more of an idea of what it was really like.
8) Seeing Illuminations from a window table at the Rose & Crown Pub is one of the greatest experiences ever! (See my trip food report on the Dining Forum if you’re interested in more detail.)
That's it for now.
