Trip for a 2 Year Old?

We are traveling with our two year old son at the very end of April to the beginning of May, staying at the Polynesian. Is the Luau a good idea for a child this age, since they discontinued Mickey's Tropical Luau? What about the Hoop-De-Doo Revue? Any other ideas? Can we take him to Cirque du Soleil?

Also, any other ideas for a child this age would be greatly appreciated! We are organizing the trip around him (returning to hotel for naps and rests, etc.).

Thanks!!

Heading for the great escape.
Can you tell me what the difference is between the Lodge and the cabins apart from the bleedin obvious?
The cabins are the one alternative that we have been offered for a family of 5. (my wife wont consider the contempary).

I agree with you-- I don't care if he doesn't remember this trip, because we'll be there again when he is older. I just want him to have a great time right now, to enjoy the present moment and what is in front of him now. What's important to us is taking him somewhere where children his age are welcome with open arms, where there is a lot to see and do as a family, and that is safe and clean and fun for us too. I don't care about riding Space Mountain; I've done it before and I'll do it again in a few more years when he is older. I just want him to enjoy his trip. Even riding the monorail will be exciting! I can't wait to see Disney World again through his eyes.

I don't think a lot of people on here are big Fort Wilderness fans mainly because they haven't experienced the magic of FW. I'm a huge FW fan, stayed there a good 7 or 8 times, I grew up in FW. I've only met a handful of people who love FW on here. So don't get all blue, I think FW is the most under-rated place in WDW.

I've been to my share of Chip N' Dale campfire movies, and they aren't anything special. I haven't stayed in FW since 98, and I don't remember any Backyard BBQ, I think it's fairly new.

I would love to stay at Fort Wilderness, but don't want to Stay in a motor home on my vacation. And the cabins are too expensive for our family (and we don't need all the room). I'll stay at the Contemporary instead ;)

In my opinion, the FW Cabins are very under-priced.

If you want to enjoy a resort to the fullest, and your not HUGE on parks, FW is a great place to stay.

If your more into the parks, and just want a hotel room, I recommend another resort.

Well I get great rates when I go to WDW because I am a travel agent. Otherwise I think I would be at Riverside with you. We are staying there in August for only 129 a night.

I agree. We took our two year old to the Hoop-De-Doo and she was oblivious to what was going on.

I agree that you will spend more time watching him than any show you're at.

I disagree. You should take him to WDW even though he's only 2. Take a video camera (as we did) and you can relive his first time there. It'll be priceless to you and it will help him remember.

He may not have the memories - but you will, and they are priceless. Enjoy every second of your trip - take lots of photos and lots of video.

Can I ask did you stay at home until your child was 7 years old.?

Current research shows that children only remember either very happy memories before this time or traumatic times, so do you advise we do nothing with our kids until then?

I would skip all the dinner shows. We took our son to WDW at age 2, no way would he have made it through HDD or any other show.

If your child likes the characters (ours loved them all) we put the meal money into character meals.

Our kid also liked to get soaked whenever possible, every cool off water place was a hit. We carried extra clothes. The little kid area at Typhoon was a big hit.

Take a comfortable stroller, they may just decide to catch some zzzzs while at a park. Then you can catch a drink or alternate rides on some of the big stuff.

And he was fasinated with Small World (groan), we must have rode it 20 times, he loved it. (now that he's 11, he's much too cool to be seen on Small World)

Enjoy the time with your 2 year old, we have great memories of that time, even if he doesn't. At that age, it's all real. We've been back plenty of times since for him to have his own memories.

on regards to taking kids b4 5 or 6

Well I have to say that I took my not yet 2 yo to disney world feb 2001. we flew, took or own stroller and she had a blast! She loved all of the characters and especially CHIP AND DALE!!! She had to be unglued from the both of them. Her other favorite was PLUTO!!! But as far as the dinner shows, im gonna risk it this year with the POLY Laua, simply because im taking my mom and with me doing it before, i can watch her if she gets restless, but its a great show that is as authenic as it can get....it might be expensive, but its all you can eat and drink!!!
