What are your memories and what made you a Disney fanatic?:)

As a child, my earliest memories of Disney are of sitting in front of the TV watching "The Wonderful World Of Disney". This was usually a feature film and nearly everyone of them was about some cat and a couple of dogs walking half way across America for some unknown reason :brick:
Later on, British television came up with the idea of Disney Time. On a Bank Holiday (usually) some TV celebrity would introduce clips from new Disney animated films and old favourites.

I'm sorry to say that was all for the next twenty years until I had kids of my own - we started to collect Disney films when they were released on video. The kids still have an ever increasing collection (just under 40 at last count)

As for me - my interest started when "researching" for our first holiday and has increased with each holiday planned.

To reach fanatical status - I blame this web site :sohappy: :sohappy:

Thats mine too. And the thing was the only way the Average Joe was ever going to visit Disneyland or WDW was if Jim Fixxed It for you.
As my nursey wife pointed out a trip like this was reserved for the well off or the terminally ill. My lot dont know how lucky they are!!

My earliest Disney memory is listening and singing along to those old quarter-inch thick, yellow plastic records of "scarecrow" and "zorro" with my cousins. I, too, remember 'wonderful world of color" on Sunday nights. Then my first trip to DL in 1968 (at age 10) and the constant longing to return. It took me 28 years to get to DW, and have been lucky enough to return each year since.

My first memories was when I was almost five. My Dad took me to see Mary Popins. I bought the album and wore out two of them singing along with them (my poor Mom). Each Sunday night after bathtime we would watch "the Wonderful World of Color" (in BW )later "the Wonderful World of Disney"or visa versa. I remember Walt Disney introducing "The Pirates of the Caribbean" in Disney Land. My family never went, we were really poor and had to think about buying food not going on vacation. Finally I went with my sister to WDW and later all by myself I was in my twenties by then. When I (39 yrs )married my husband (my Prince Charming) we went on a 10 day trip to WDW for our Honeymoon and we go every year now (A real dream come true).

first WDW memory

I first trip was in the first week of January '83. The trip down I read Bernbaum's WDW guide cover to cover and back again. We stayed at International Drive, which was an eye-opener for a 9yr. old. I remember the "highways" on Disney property, turning the radio to 800AM to hear WDW information, and the first glimpse of Spaceship Earth as we neared the entrance.

this isn't really an earliest memory...but one of my fave memories! but mine was when i was like 7. my mom is very good at making things. she made me a VERY cute alice in wonderland dress for halloween....i had everything. from the blue dress, white apron to the shoes, knee highs & black hair thing!! well, when we went to wdw that year, i wore it the day we went to mk. i went to meet alice! it was SO awesome! we have every minute on tape! she made a HUGE deal outta me! she said i was her sister...and she made me meet the white rabbit too! and i was very scared of characters then! he was one my 1st characters to go up to. then she asked if i was gonna watch the 3 o'clock parade. and we were, so she told me to yell for her when she went by. so i did...and she waved & yelled "hi alice!" it was an awesome day! of course, this was before disney started to sell those dresses for kids! so, maybe i started something?!?! :p

o yeah! my sis is supposed to send me the pic of that day. i'm w/alice! i'll add it to here if y'all wanna see it!

My first memories of anything related to Disney begin around 1985 or 1986. My grandparents started me on Disney when they gave me several Disney audio cassette stories (Mickey and Friends Double Birthday Surprise and Astro-Ducks). To this day, I still have those cassettes and play them all the time. Even though, I'm 20 now, I still love to listen to them. I also gradually built up a collection of Disney audio cassettes ranging from Brer Rabbit and Tar Baby to Winnie The Pooh stories. My family did have the Disney Channel back in the early 80s. And I remember watching Mousercise early in the morning. Other programs I remember watching include: Wind and The Willows, Welcome to Pooh Corner, Dumbo's Circus (puppet version). And later, I remember watching the show Under The Umbrella Tree. For a long time, I had a crush on Holly! :-)
I went to Disney World for the first time in Christmas of 1988 (I was 5 yrs. old). Luckily, I remember the majority of the entire trip. The first night, we arrived and rode the monorail. I remember riding the monorail and seeing Cinderella castle lit up in that light blue color. Riding the monorail at night during Christmas is the most magical experience there is for a 5 to 6 year old. Then we rode Mr. Toads Wild Ride and went to Mickey's Toontown Fair. The next day we went to Epcot, I think. And luckily I do remember riding Horizons, World of Motion and the "old version" of Universe of Energy. And of course I remember Spaceship Earth. I went back to WDW back 10 years later in 1998 and had a blast. And now I collect WDW attraction music, mp3s, wav, realaudio, whatever. I am in the middle of creating a entire audio version of Walt Disney World. I am also considering next year going to apply for the WDW College Program.

Those were the good ole' days.

My very first memory was when i was about 4 and I was watching a television special about the grand opening of the Haunted Mansion at DL (yes i'm old). It was filmed all over the park and had guests like Sandy Duncan, and The Osmond Brothers. I was GLUED to the TV.

At the end it showed the Osmonds in front of the mansion, and Donny DISAPPEARED! I was terrified to ride the Haunted Mansion after that.

My first memory IN the park was biting into a Frozen Bannana, and losing a tooth!

MY MEMORIES

Well...For me was the summer of 1970. I was 7 and we went on a special Preview tour of the unfinished property. I recall the bus driving down main street and the bottom of buildings were just the steel work. Now I dont know if were driving thru the unfinished utilidor with out its roof or the street level storfronts were not installed yot , but I do remember the buildings were "floating" above us, and most of the concreat surfaces werent poured yet. I'm digressing here.

Anyway... then when we went for christmas in 71, I was in aw of the place finished and so sparkling clean and i loved all the rides and it wasn't as crowed as it is now. Every year form then on I look foward of my vacation trip at christmas to WDW

I miss thoes days
