Trip Advisor Reviews: Take With a Pillar of Salt.

So since I'm really bored , "working from home", I decided to read some of the newer reviews for CSR on TA today and I must say-- there is some ridiculous stuff on there.

Let me share this gem with you all: (Excerpt from a "Terrible" rating reviewer, stayed in December '12)
"Buses: For the driver at Magic Kingdom that called my wife and the nice lady she was with "liars", you should be fired! They both said they stood there for 40 minutes and you acted completeley unprofessional.
Epcot: Word to the wise.... My wife and I, along with our kids, decided to eat at the restaurant on the water in Mexico. After a bird crapped on my son's shirt, then my shirt, and a little girl behind us, who was in tears, it was enough to make me sick. But, the bird that left his droppings in my wife's lunch, took the cake. Yes, we complained. do not think anyone understood or cared. $64 for lunch that none of us ate. 18 years of Disney and do not think you could pay my children to go back. Very disappointed in the vacation we use to LOVE!"

That's unfortunate that a bird did what wild, free roaming animals with wings do naturally. It's unfortunate. But why exactly is Disney responsible for it? Maybe you should have not eaten outside, there is an inside area to eat at that San Angel Inn counter service restaurant. I also feel like these incidents that happen at the parks are taken out on the resort in their reviews. I can't believe some of the wild accusations. Yeah, I've had unsatisfactory experiences and things happen but I've never been "insulted" or found a prophylactic in my room or dirty underwear or anything of that sort. I really think that some people are victims of wild imaginations or are just plain vindictive!

Has anyone really had a very terrible experience at a WDW resort? Been insulted, found disgusting things in their rooms, etc? I can't believe some of these terrible reviews. I've stayed at Comfort Inn's by the airports and interstates and I wouldn't even be able to say that those 2 star hotels are terrible.

I've stayed in hotels ranging from highway motels, to WDW Deluxe, to rooms on the Vegas strip, to deluxe hotels overseas. Never been in a place I'd say is Terrible.

I believe people who are unhappy, and/or have an axe to grind, are way more likely to post a bad review, then they are to post a positive review if they were pleased.

The review you mentioned is indicative of online reviews. This guy wrote a review as if a CM came out to his table and peed in his family's food, because a bird pooped on them. Can't really speak as to the alleged bus incident, but am guessing either this guy is outright lying as to what happened, or fails to mention that his wife was acting the b&$&h toward the bus driver in question. This is why, like you said, I take any online reviews with a "pillar of salt."

Ok that's just hilarious... really you'd let a bird... a wild animal (as you said)... make the decision to not go somewhere again? Sure I get it, he's saying he asked for someone to do something about it and they didn't and that's the real reason but I could totally see my husband and son laughing their butts off if it happened to them and making the best of it. I would be willing to bet had he spoke to someone politely he'd have gotten a full replacement meal for each of them.

Me... we've only had one bad experience on property (a few elsewhere tho) and it was immediately remedied. We checked into a room that was very obviously not cleaned. We think the people who had stayed there before us had cleaned up before they left (made their beds, hung the towels) so it LOOKED like a mousekeeper had been there and as such, we assumed the mousekeeper who showed up saw it and walked right back out (thinking her job was done). As we started unpacking we found obvious signs that the room hadn't been cleaned (the garbage cans were full, there was sticky yuck on the table, the towels were wet, etc.). We called the front desk, they sent a mousekeeper up within 5 minutes, the room was totally pulled and redone and we were all good.

Word.

And absolutely, the stuff the 'cast members' have to take from angry, irritated tourists is unbelievable. I've witnessed many more incidents of guests being downright cruel to employees than vice versa. I also like it when people have THEIR WHOLE LIVES RUINED because there was a little problem with their check in. I've had an issue with check in at CBR and yeah it sucked and yeah it took maybe half an hour to resolve but everyone was friendly and remained professional and I was even upgraded as a result. I honestly feel that some people are just feeling entitled to everything all the time. This past Christmas I was at Disney and I can't believe some ofthe stuff I saw from rude guests. A cast member working the fast pass entry lane was ripped into like a bear on a camper just because the guest missed their window to come back! Hey buddy, it's YOUR fault!

Something similar happened to me on my last Disney trip. My mother, sister, niece and I stayed off site with a timeshare exchange, and we got a suite that had been refurbished recently. When we got there, there was stuff on the floor, and there was no shower curtain in the one shower. All it took was one phone call, and a few minutes wait for someone to come and fix the problem.

Yeah, and you know, mousekeeping hasn't always been very thorough I have to admit. But they have so many rooms to clean and who knows what kind of day they are having or what kind of mess they are having to clean. I try to be as organized and clean as I can when I stay at a hotel. I don't think that just because I'm at a hotel and there is a maid it means that I have a free pass to be a disgusting person! When I stay at hotels, including recently at CBR, I walked by some rooms that were being clean and they were DESTROYED. I remember seeing this one room with a chair turned over on the floor, pizza boxes ON THE BED, clothes everywhere! Poor mousekeeper! Honestly, if I saw that mess, I wouldn't clean it. I'd "forget" and I'd let those people stay in their filth. I'd take the demerit for it too! Totally worth it! ;)

Personally, I take any review written on TA, here or any other forum with a HUGE grain of salt. Especially the reviews that give something, like on TA, 5 stars or 1 star. I'll buy into the 5 star reviews only if the place in question has a lot of reviews and has a 4.5-5 star rating. 1 star reviews are usually complete garbage with little to no basis to be rated that low. It is beyond comical the reasons why people will give a 1 rating and rarely does it ever have anything to do with the resort/restaurant/activity itself.

In general, if something interests you (again, a general you not specifically the OP), the best thing to do is try it out for yourself and form your own opinion. What one random stranger hates (for whatever reason), someone else may love.

Have you tried the Motel 6 right outside of property on the west side of World Drive? We've stayed there twice, and I hope we don't have to go back. The first time was due to ignorance, the second time was desperation due to a flub with our originally planned hotel.

Little bitty roaches and no alarm clocks in the room. Couple that with a moldy smell and I would rate it as terrible.

Nah I haven't. I have to admit I generally don't do the motel thing. But whenever I have stayed at one , which has been twice admittedly, I haven't seen any roaches or the etc.

oh I am LMAO at the bird crapping !!! This happened to my DD2 when we were running to our ressie at the Wilderness Cabin place where Mickeys Backyard BBQ is held! She was like a bird just crapped on my head and we were busting up laughing and the one of the hostess girls told her that was lucky when that happened !

A bird crapped on my mom's head once. While we were in Fantasyland.
My sister and I got her some napkins.....after we were done vomiting from laughter.

I work for a hotel and we got a bad review once (well we got them all the time before our renovation) and the manager questioned the employee who was mentioned in the review and gave a completely different story. I work in customer service with both my jobs and let me tell you some people are just angry all the time, they live to make others miserable and cause problems just to get something for free, happens every day without fail. And let me tell you what people do to motel rooms is awful and frankly sometimes criminal (oh and really freaky). However at Disney I've never had an issue with any stay (well a billing issue once but cleared up). I do know how hard a housekeeper works so if I ever found something it was usually only very minor. OMG could I tell you some hotel stories!!

I find it hard to believe that one bird crapped on him, his kid, a kid behind them, AND his wife's food. Sounds like bull crap to me. More likely he got to WDW and expected something free to make the trip magical. Once he did not get it he was an a**hat the rest of the trip. Must be a real peach going on vacation with that piece of work.

Negative people will find negative things. As for the bird crapping on them, I am sure the QS people would replace the meal. WDW is not responsible for the clothes. Just go to the bathroom, wash it off, or buy a new shirt. These same people probably took their kids as infants every where expecting stores to provide them diapers because they soiled themselves.

Funny how this was supposed to be a review on CSR but the reviewer is slamming a restaurant in EPCOT.

I have gotten some good info on TA but as with all things internet related you have to realize that people would rather complain on an internet site than try to seek satisfaction through the venues that have the potential ability to actually do something to resolve the issue. Some of the people have legitimate gripes but some are just miserable malcontents who seek to spew venomous rage because they were not hugged enough as a child or some such underlying issue.

I always look at the overall reviews and not just one or two. If the overwhelming number of people are complaining of mildew on the air conditioning vents then that is probably well founded. But if one person rages on and on over not enough towels in their room...well, then there is your pillar of salt.
