Traveling Within Disney's Old Key West

I just saw the map of Disney's Old Key West and fear that the resort is a little to big. My parent's wont like the fact of walking miles to get to our resort room. Has anyone ever stayed at Disney's Old Key West? If so, did you find the resort to be bigger than you thought? Did it take forever to walk from one place to another? Is everything close? Can you request rooms closer to the main building? Please let me know! Thank you!

I didn't find it to be that overly big. We stayed all the way at the end of one of the roads, and I had no problem to talk back to the main area of mug refills.

However, you need to keep in mind that it is a DVC resort. You don't have the same need to go to the main building all the time as you may at the other resorts. There are multiple bus stops around the resort, so you never need to go the main building to get a bus (except for DME). And you can take a bus back to the hospitality house, so no walking is ever need except to the bus stop. However, you should either have laundry in room, or nearby (if in a studio), pools are at multiple locations on property, as are ice machines and there is a second snack area. The CS location at OKW is a bit on the thin side, and since you have at minimum a kitchenette in your room, plenty of people choose to bring their own food instead of going over. Even at check in, bell services will help bring both you and your luggage to your room if you don't want to walk.

Have not stayed there but at many other properties inside Disney. Things are relitively close together in the resorts. Transportation to the parks is easy to use...your parents should'nt have to walk for miles. You can request rooms closer to or in the main building..but one must be diligent in tht endevor and there are no garuntees. Id recommend you ask them to put a note in the system for a close room..and then be there IF possible around 730-8 am on checkin day..the benefit to this is that if the resort wasnt sold out the previous night your rooms may be ready then..or much earlier than 3-4PM..it also will make it easier for the front dest to make possible adjustments to a room assignment as they may have more leeway in the early part of the day..

I have been to OKW many times - and yes, the resort if quite large.

However, the bus stops are very convenient and you can always use the buses to get back to the Hospitality House/Olivias/main pool.

I have a friend with a disability and that is her DVC home base (mine is Saratoga). When she books her trip she requests a room as close to the hospitality house as possible - this may be an option for you. Otherwise, ask for a room close to a bus stop.

My favorite rooms are on the main waterway that leads to downtown Disney. I loved sitting on the balcony watching the boats go by.... I didn't mind the walk to the hospitality house...and the bus was only a short walk....you might want to consider those buildings when you request....

We stayed there last August andwhile they did not let me choose exactly where I wanted to stay(ie which building or room) they did take a request and move us closer to the main pool and hospitality area. We had to walk about 2 blocks to get there but thge walk was pleasant on wide sidewalks and the bus stop was just outside the door.

Stayed at OKW last month and we were about as far away from our nearest bus stop as I think you can get, which for us equated to only the length of about three building units. In contrast, we spent a few nights at the Boardwalk at the end of our stay and the distance from our room to the bus stop was much further, albeit mostly indoors.

Hope you enjoy your stay! We liked OKW a lot!

Thanks for the replies guys I feel much better knowing this. We are going to call Disney tomorrow and just ask if we can put it in our reservation because it doesn't hurt. Looking forward to trying OKW we never stayed there before.
