Traveling for two: Do's & Don'ts

We have officially decided to spend our honeymoon in Walt Disney World! Since our last 2 vacations have been to WDW we tried to talk ourselves into doing something new, like the Dominican Republic or Cancun... we told ourselves that was the plan for about 6 months but as of yesterday we threw that out the window. Disney is our place, our oh so very happy place, some of our family members do not get it and they think we are wasting our money so I come to all of you!

What do two adults do at WDW to make it unlike any trip yet? I know we will have fun and it will be romantic just because of the fact we will be celebrating our honeymoon. Best romantic restaurants? Is the spa worth the money? Carriage ride at fort wilderness or Port Orleans? We are thinking about staying at port Orleans riverside, we have always stayed at a value resort so that will be a nice touch. Room recommendations? What can we skip and what should we for sure do?

We will be getting married in April 2015 and not taking our honeymoon until September 2015 for money purposes, hoping to take advantage of the free dining.. does anyone know if riverside applies to the free dining? I know some resorts do and some do not. I am filled with questions and would love your feedback.

My husband and I have been to Disney 2X since our kids have grown and married. Not a honeymoon but planning for 2 just the same. We usually stay at a deluxe just because we can and we love the convenience. Our favorite is The CR so we are able to easily access the GF and it's wonderful restaurants: Citrico's and Narcossees. We also love the Grand Floridian Cafe and the Kona Cafe for breakfast. A short boat ride will take you to The WL for a wonderful dinner at Artist Point. And The California Grill in the CR really gives you a pampered feel.
I have only gone to The Spa at The GF once for a manicure and it was really nice.
Enjoy EMH while you can without children....it will be fun!
Enjoy The Boardwalk and the restaurants there.
Downtown Disney is also quite fun at night....we love Cirque to Soleil.
And remember....it is very hot hot hot and humid humid humid is September so plan accordingly.
Have a wonderful wedding and a magical honeymoon! :cat:

Definitely plan on doing some unique dining. V&As is a phenomenal experience, a bit pricey though. Cali Grill is great, as is Jiko. I'd say Jiko & V&As are on the more romantic side, tend to feel smaller and darker.

As far as free dining goes, it and any other promotion, are offered on an as needed basis. If a particular resort or room class is hitting targeted occupancy rates, then they won't offer discounts/promotions, or they may be lesser ones than those offered elsewhere. Or there may only be a few rooms offered, or more restrictive dates, etc.

Most of all, have fun.

I want to say... that last year... POR and POFQ were in fact omitted from Free Dinning. CBR and CSR were the only moderates included I believe.

With the recent room renovation, a king bed at CBR would be pretty tempting to us on a romantic getaway. The quiet beaches, abundant quiet pools, and laid back atmosphere is quite immersive. It truly is a tropical getaway... and the size really allows for an intimate feeling outside of the Food Court and Main Pool.

We (couple as well) tend to go for an R&R approach to Disney these days. Sleep in or TS breakfast, resort pool or water park, afternoon FP+ and a nice dinner ADR.

ADRs for next trip [hopefully] include Flying Fish, Yachtsman Steakhouse, California Grill, BOG (for MNSHHP), and Victoria and Albert's.

We also plan on enjoying the resort lounges, perhaps some bar-crawling (monorail pub crawl comes to mind) and taking advantage of the 'walk up' policy at many Signature bars.

If you guys are into the 'food and wine'... consider traveling later in September to take advantage of the F&W festival which is expected to start 9/18/15.

Other activities will most likely include personal watercraft tour (Jet Skis) on Seven Seas Lagoon/Bay Lake, Sea Raycer and Pontoon rentals, and miniature golf.

I've seen it all... the other half has no desire to... we really enjoy this style of a Disney vacation.

Disney is not just for kids! I would try out some of the restaurants that do not have 'character dining' since these will have more children around. Epcot has so great places to check out. You may also want to check out some of the Disney tours. They are not as pricey as you would expect and you can see some behind the scenes aspects of WDW.

Are there still honeymoon registrations sites? IF there are then ask in advance for things like a dinner at V&A, para sailing at the contemporary, carriage rides, massages,

DH and I honeymooned at a beautiful resort in Jamaica, and have said ever since that we're sorry we didn't go to WDW instead! As much as we enjoyed lounging on the beach with umbrella drinks and taking long walks in the sand, we missed the breadth and excitement of the Disney experience, which would have offered so much more.

I think your plan to have a deferred honeymoon is wise -- not only will you have it to look forward to as you de-stress from the wedding and adjust to married life, but you'll be able to do and see far more in September, for less money, than if you went at any other time.

I'd say go ahead and book the resort of your choice and start watching for discounts to be released. If a free dining offer comes out which doesn't happen to cover your resort and you want to take advantage of it, switch your reservation at that point if necessary. It's unlikely that at that time of year, anything is going to be fully booked!

As for "non-kid" things to do, there's always romantic dinners, walks along the beach, and extra time in the World Showcase lounges at the end of the night. Failing that, visit one of the deluxe resorts with a spa (e.g., Grand Floridian, Saratoga Springs) for one of the couples' packages. In our experience, though, in those happy golden honeymoon years, it doesn't take anything particularly special to make a romantic moment. You may find that just being in WDW, with the one you love, with no one to look after but yourselves, is hugely special all by itself.

Disney for couples is a lot of fun! Go downtown Disney grab dinner & drinks, epcot at night around world showcase is awesome, they do couples massages at select resorts, take a tour behind the scenes, do a firework boat cruise, I mean I could literally go on and on. You'll have an amazing time regardless of what you two decide on

My wife and I love going to disney just the 2 of us. We like doing the same things and it makes it very efficient when you don't have to wait on other people and such. You'll love that part. I for one never do the dining plan, bc the majority of the restaurants we love aren't on the packages. It's actually cheaper for us not to do the dining package and just do the reservations by ourselves. I recommend doing what you want in the mornings and afternoons at the parks, but make sure you do a nice dinner every night you're there. That's we just did in spent ever when we went for 5 days in September. We did dinners at le Celier, California grill, teppen edo, Ohara and Victoria and Alberts. We couldn't get a BoG reservation which upset us. But gives us a reason to go again soon, have a great trip!!!
