My lovely boyfriend and I are going to WDW in September this year, it will be his first trip and my 7th! So he wants the complete florida experience, seeing as we probably won't be able to go again for a while as we're both in Uni we'd like to hit Universal while we're there. We're staying in Port Orleans Riverside and are relying on the Disney transport provided, does anyone know of a way we could get from Disney to Universal with out a car, and without breaking the bank?

I was wondering the same thing, I'm going to WDW in October and would like to see Harry Potter at Universal. I thought the way to go was to take a bus to Downtown Disney and from there take a cab.

You could take a cab from the front of your resort, but it'll be roughly $80 plus tips. You could also use a Mears shuttle. When we called last December it was $18/person round trip. Just make sure you're at your pick-up location 10-15 minutes before they're due to pick you up or they'll leave you there!

Mears Transportation has been a good service for me when I've been in the same situation. I believe they charge $16 a person for a trip there and back. You can call a few hours (or the night) before and tell them where you're staying. The bus will pick up at a certain time every hour and you pay the driver.

The nice thing is when you're at Universal you can call Mears and tell them when you plan on leaving and they'll give you a time to be at the bus stop. It's very flexible and you don't feel restricted by a specific pick up time. I've had mostly good dealings with Mears.

Only downfall to Mears (at times), they usually go to Seaworld first. I've had days where a van picked us up and we were there in 20 minutes and other times a bus had to stop at 5 Disney hotels and it took 45 min to get to Universal. This also happened on the way back several times when they had a lot of people and not many busses.

Overall I would recommend it for the price paid.

Mears works fairly well, but I've had issues with them when visiting Sea World. If you can at all afford it, I recommend a rental car. The freedom to come and go as you please cannot be understated.

Have a great time!

Try to hit Uni on the weekend, and take advantage of the weekend rates at Enterprise or Alamo (owned by the same company).
