My family will be visiting WDW next year. There will be 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 children, ages 3 1/2 to 13. What hotels have the quickest travel time to the Magic kingdom? Thanks for the info. It's been 15 years since my last visit to DW.

The Contemporary has a walkway to the MK, and is also on the monorail. The Grand Floridian and Polynesian have monorail/boat access as well. Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness have boat transportation.

Well.... you can walk from The Contemporary....about 10-15 minutes.... to the MK.
You can try this website for travel times around the park. http://www.ourlaughingplace.com/aspx/twiz.aspx#.UwSctUCYZMt
The resort monorail loops around from the MK to the CR, the TTC, the Poly and the Grand Floridian . You can take a boat from the WL to the MK. The rest of the resorts rely on bus transportation to the MK. The above website should help. :cat:

The monorail resorts are by far and away the quickest- you simply board the monorail and in 1-3 stops you will be at the MK (less than 15 min). Fort Wilderness is pretty quick with the boat ride, but really long for all other resorts. If you do not want to stay at a deluxe resort, most of the value and moderates are between 20-30 from the resort, but some make multiple in-resort stops, especially the spread out moderates CBR and CS. The longest travel times are generally from the deluxe non-monorail resorts- the Epcot resorts and AKL will be 30 min+ and you can expect long waits especially for AKl. I'm sure some people have the exact minutes calculated from every resort, but this should give you a good idea.

We stayed at the Contemporary a few years ago and loved being able to walk to MK...i.e. no waiting on a bus, boat, or monorail. We could usually make the walk in under 10 minutes.

The Contemporary will be your best bet for a consistently quick trip to the MK because of the walkway. Staying at a hotel on the loop (Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian), there's always the possibility that a monorail is arriving just as you're walking to the station. Of course, it's also possible that you just missed the monorail, which will add roughly 10-15 minutes to your travel time as you wait for the monorail to loop around again. Whereas with a walk from the Contemporary, you know it's a 10-15 minute walk, no guess work.

As other have stated, if you can afford it the monorail resorts are the best for access to the Magic Kingdom. The wilderness Lodge is also a quick boat ride to there as well.
