Travel between Riverside and French Quarter . . .

Sorry if this has been posted previously, how do you travel between POR and POFQ? I know there is a walk way. We could use the boat, correct? What about busses? We'll be staying at POR and I want to go over to POFQ to try their Beignets! Thanks!! :wave:

Having only stayed at POR once I can't say if this is always the case, but every time we rode the boat to DTD we stopped at FOFQ so that would probably be the easiest way. All of the buses to the parks always stopped at POFQ first and then moved on to POR. Not sure how long of a walk it would be if you followed the path.

It's a nice relaxing 10-15 minute walk along the Sasgaoula River. Depending on the boat schedule, it is often faster to walk.

The beignets are to die for!!! They are big and a small order will be enough for two people. Having stayed at POFQ, they are a must to get. As for getting to POR, we either took the boat which was a nice way or we walked the 10 - 15 minutes. I dont remember it taking that long. We went for dinner at POR because Boatwrights has a nice dinner menu. Hope it helps.

Crazy,

Since the busses stop @ POFQ first then travel onward to Riverside on their way to the parks, you can't ride the busses from Riverside to POFQ without a detour to a park or DTD first.

However, after you've sampled the beignets and are ready to "return" to Riverside, you can jump on any of the busses @ POFQ and they'll head to Riverside to pickup guests, (and drop you off), before heading to the parks.

One caveat though.

Sometimes, if a bus has been sent to POFQ/Riverside empty just to pickup guests and begin it's duty, it will head off to the park as soon as it's full without continuing it's entire Riverside route. So if it's empty when it arrives @ POFQ, be sure to tell the driver as you get on which of the specific Riverside bus stops that you need to be dropped at or you may end up heading off to a park first anyway.

I've written several posts on different threads about the beignets, they are amazing. Last few trips I've stayed at POFQ and I without question get several orders of beignets every time. They are delicious. Don't worry about being covered in powdered sugar, many people around you will be too.

I can confirm that the beignets were excellent as recently as December 22. Mind you, the atmosphere is quite Cafe du Monde, but it'll do!

As for the transport, we stayed at POR-Alligator Bayou side. The walk to FQ was about 10-12 minutes at a pretty slow pace (i.e., as fast as a wandering 5-year-old goes). If you are on the Magnolia Bend side of POR, it could be even shorter. If for some reason you don't want to do the walk, the boats to DtD generally will stop at POFQ on the way. Just check with the captain to make sure you haven't hit one of the very few that goes direct. Even so, I'd do the walk, because you'll need to wait for the boat and the boats aren't exactly fast anyways!

As for buses, at most times of the day, FQ and R have separate buses. In our 9 days, we never were on a bus that did both.

During our May 08 vacation at French Quarter, the busses only stopped at Riverside when going to Magic Kingdom...and only when we were in a big hurry to get there.
The rest of the time, it was a direct French Quarter/park route.

Thanks everyone for the info. For as many times we've stayed at POR we've never made it over to PORQ to try the beignets! We're determined to do it this time! LOL! We're headed down 2/3. I can't wait. It's been freezing here in Pittsburgh! I need a little sunshine! :wave:

I think walking would be the best way to get there. It's really not that long of a walk. Besides, hypothetically, if your wife decided to go by boat and you decided to walk, I think it's a pretty good bet that you could either be there or a good part of the way there while she's still waiting for a boat to come. And once the boat does get there, then you have to piddle for 5 or 10 minutes waiting for the whole loading/unloading/waiting for more passengers to arrive process. The only way I can think of that the boat ride would be quicker is if you came up to the boat dock right as the boat was about to pull away and you managed to get on board right as it's getting ready to pull off. Otherwise, a person could walk there in the amount of time it takes for the boat to pull in and get ready.

Now if you want to ride the boat just to experience being on the river and seeing the resorts from the water, by all means, do it. But if you're looking for the quickest way to get from POR to POFQ, I'd definitely say walk.

I agree. With the weather we are supposed to have this weekend, I'm sure you will be more than ready for your trip.

I didn't have the beignets when there but my son did. My dad said he loved them. I was at the urgent care center with my daughter when my dad got them.
