I hope this is the relevate topic to place this thread....??

I have one day planned when we are staying in Saratoga to go to Universal and Islands of Adventure that day ( I know it can take days to go around but I got the express pass plus for both parks).

What is the best (either private or cheapest) company to use to get to Universal and also my main worry is arranging a pick up to return back to Disney? Any idea what time we should arrange a pick up from Universal etc.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think I have ever tried to go to Universal from Disney. If there is only a couple of people a taxi may be a good option. If there is a large group than you may need to call a larger transport like mears.

A cab ride is/was $60. My MIL went for 2 days. I was cheaper for them to rent a car (via Thrifty the "wild car" option) which was $118 for a week. So they had the car the whole week, but EVERY OTHER car company was $300-350.Hope this helps.

If you call MEARS they always have buses going back and forth between Universal, Disney, Seaworld...etc. It is reasonably priced, I have used them a few times with no problems.

Thank you to everyone else who gave advice. I dont plan on renting a car and there is only 2 in the group.

I will take a look at the website, thanks. Can I ask you DIsneydiva72, what time did you leave the park at night and was it easy to meet up with the driver to get the return journey back? :D

I stayed the entire day so I guess it was around 6-6:30 when he picked us up. I had no problem finding the driver, he had my cell number an I had his but we did not need to use it, he picked us up right under the central hub at Universal.
I now rent a car because I bounce back and forth between the parks, but if you only plan on going to Universal for one day, then its worth it to just get the MEARS. (in my opinion)

I've always used a taxi (or I have waked when we stayed nearby off site). From AKL it cost around $35. You get the flexibility of going home when you want so if you fancy a night in CityWalk, nothing lost and there are always enough taxi's outside the entrance.

If you choose to use a taxi make sure you use a YELLOW CAB (I believe thats the correct name) they are monitored by Orlando so you dont get ripped off.

Thank you for the advice. I will take this on board because Im a big planner and like things organised.

I always worried that I would step out of the park and everyone would be getting in to their cars and we would be stuck, with no taxi etc.

Mears is $16 per person roundtrip and the pick up times are set by you. The cheapest way to get to Universal
is to take Lynx bus route 50 from Disney's Ticket &Transportation center to Seaworld. Then switch to the I-Ride trolley to Universal.

Must have been a big window in the cab, for the driver definitely seen you coming

Not sure what you are talking about. I have never taken a cab, I always rent a car. My MIL called and that is what 2 cab companies said to her. By that way the $60 is round trip.

When I Googled this several sites noted $25-28 one way. This was in 2007. I think $60 is what I would expect to pay.

I would highly recommend using Mears shuttle service. We went to the Universal parks on two seperate days. You call ahead a day before and tell them where you're staying.. they'll give you the hourly times you can pick up the shuttle. Our first time it was a van that took us directly to USF.. the 2nd time it was a bus that made several Disney hotel stops and took a bit longer.

It's $16.00 a person round trip - you don't have to set a "pick up time" - just call Mears approximately 2 to 3 hours before you believe you'll want to leave the parks for a pick up time. In my opinion, unless you have 3 or 4 people paying for a taxi cab its a rip off. The city bus is cheaper, but is more of a hassle I think.

When we got picked up in the van it took maybe 15 to 20 minutes to get to USF from Pop Century and it was a direct trip. I found the service to be cheap, quick, and easy to use. Also, the staff at the lobby of the Disney resorts are helpful if you have any issues with Mears.. they're well known and frequently used.
