What is going to be the cheapest transportation from the airport to our hotel for 2 adults with little luggage? Cab, Mears, or Rental Car? Any other suggestions till this dang train gets built?
Mears would probably be the cheapest. But for a few dollars more you can get a towncar to take you directly to your resort/hotel rather than stopping at all the others first. (We always managed to be the last stop! )
It's also gives you a little feeling of indulgence to start off the vacation.
Last we checked it was about $25 pp on Mears and about $80 for a town car, but that was a while ago.
When my fiancee and I last went, we took the Yourride transportation, it was cheaper than a rental car, little bit more expensive than Mears. They just pick up you and your party and even take you to a grocery store. I would definitely do Mears or the towncar if you are staying around Disney. Disney transportation can take you anyway in the general area. But if you are planning Universal, Sea World, anything outside Disney then a rental car is the way to go!
When you figure in a $10 tip each way, a towncar is double what Mears will cost.
That said, it is worth every penny, especially if you want the grocery stop and prefer direct and private transportation.
If you are concerned about $, then go with Mears. You will have to wait on the lower level of the terminal until there are enough people for a load, and you probably will go to other resorts before yours. It does make for a nice tour of the property if you look at it that way.
Mears is "public" transportation; a towncar is private.
