Hows the transportation at AKL? Who has stayed that can give input? Busses run timely? Are there seperate stops around it or just one main stop?

AKL gets an unfair reputation I believe claiming that it is "too far away" from most of the action. I stayed at Kidani Village in January which was my first stay at AKL. I bought my DVC points there having never stayed there, so of course I was concerned with what I heard but am happy to say that I never saw a problem with transportation. The bus service was the most reliable and quickest that I have had at any deluxe resort. Is the resort a bit farther away from the MK...sure it is. However, I timed the trip from AKL to MK by bus to be about 15 minutes. There is no way that my bus in the Epcot resort area takes less time than that with all the stops that it has to make. The buses ran very frequently and I never found myself waiting long at all. Suffice it to say that I will be happy using my points there for many years to come.

This.

From what I have experienced the number of stops the bus makes at the resorts is the biggest factor in your travel time. (there are only 2 at AKL) Once you are on the road you can get pretty much get from any point A to any point B on property in about 15-20 minutes.

I've stayed at all the Disney resorts in spades and the transportation from "all" of them are fine. WDW is 48 sq miles so your close or further to somewhere no matter where you stay. If Animal Kingdom Lodge is what you and your family want then go for it. How many times have you heard someone say a restaurant they went to was terrible and you yourself have been there a few times and you thought it was fine. AKL is so unique, you'll love it there.

Have a great trip.

We stayed at AKL between Christmas and New Year 2008. We only had one issue with busses on one morning. Having missed one bus (I think it was to MK) we had a wait of almost 30 minutes for the next one. All other days, to MK and to the other parks there were no issues at all. Bus waits averaged about 10 minutes

We just got back from AKL in April. The busses were reliable and came pretty quickly and most importantly, were never standing room only. I'll take 15-20 minutes to MK sitting over 10 minutes standing on a All Star or PC bus.

AKL is a wonderful resort - our new favorite! Enjoy!

We stayed there for our honeymoon back in April 2008 and whilst the parks were kinda crowded, we had no problems with the transport at all (aside from one trip which took a very, very long time due to a Grad Night).

Obviously you don't have the luxury of a monorail or water transport, but the busses work well, they we're certainly frequent enough and we always had a seat.
