I asked this question once before but thought I would give it another shot since I can't find the thread.

What do I have to do to transfer a video into a movie file on my computer to upload online?
I have some great footage of rides, shows, and parades that I would love to share but I cannot figure it out.

My video camera is a Sony and records onto the mini dvds. I have finalized it to the disc but when I try to upload it to a movie file I cannot!:hammer:My kodak camera that uses a memory card automatically uploads it to a .mov file that I can upload.

Help!!! Please

my guess is ..the size and datarate is much to high to upload the camfile directly ..

you should use a video aplication to transcode (and maybe cut, title, etc.) your clips .. and then upload it .. a good webtranscode format should be divx

A good place to start would be http://video.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=26562&cbid=-f8drk15vglte&src=cb&lev=answer
it gives the specs for the file formats that google video (youtube)... I think if you click on the "how do I upload" question it will even take you to a place where they have software to help do what your trying to do.... I assume you aren't doing HD video... if you are then it will certainly have to be translated into SD first.

Thanks for answering. I have no idea what I am doing. The memory cards are simple because all I have to do is save the file. Can you recommend an application or program that I need to use that will allow me to save the disc file to my computer? This is driving me insane!! :brick:

wasn't there somekind of cd included ? most vendors include some kind of basic editor
Nope, I didn't get anything but the camcorder and instruction book which tells me nothing about this only the camcorder functions etc. and the battery pack adapter and video cords. (it is the Canon dc100 kit)

I've bought 4 canon cameras so far (3x photo and 1x video) .. and all were packed with booklets and cd's

you could use the windows movie maker .. it should be compatible with SD quality MPEG2 video files

Thanks, I will try it. I don't know why I didn't get one then? I even went and got my box which has all the paperwork and there is not a cd just the book, and registration info.

Perfect timing DisneyShe! I was trying to make copies of our WDW trip videos shot on my Hitachi DVDCam the other day to give to my brother and mother-in-law, who were on the trip with us. I got as far as copying them over to my hard drive as a VIDEO_TS folder with the vob and other files all in tact. I just put the mini DVD's into my computer's DVD Rom drive and clicked open on the DVD Rom drive letter in My Computer and copied and pasted the whole VIDEO_TS folder from the mini DVD to my hard drive that way.
From here, I want to put them on to blank, regular sized DVD-R's and was thinking of using Movie Maker to add some cool effects and intro's and that. Ran into the same problem as you did with it not recognizing them. Found this free Nero Recode CE software online that seemed like it solved my problem. It converted everything over to Mpeg4 files, but would not show up when played in my regular DVD player. Still have to figure that part out. :brick:
Still might be worth taking a look at though. There are also a couple of programs that you could try out called DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter that I have used in the past to edit video or movie files down in size and change their file type. Might be worth looking at.

those dvd shink programs are for converting dvd 9's to a smaller more piracyer size :lookaroun

but even after shrinking those files remain mpeg2 with ts ending .. but you need an editor to work with those files .. I guess best way to do this is buy a simple NLE suite like ulead video studio, smth. like that

Dolby, is this one of these things where the video has been finalized on a dvd and already rendered into a Video_ts folder and the VOBs like a regular dvd?

finalizing those video camcorder discs should create a playable structure .. so that you could pop them into any dvd player you like (only mpeg2 models not avchd)

I did finalize the disc in order for it to able to be played on my dvd player or computer. It plays fine I just cannot upload or do anything with it other than that.

I've used Pinnacle Studio for years to create DVDs from VHS tapes and such AND it also does what you are asking as well. The latest Nero Ultra edition can do it as well.
