Transferring ( or selling) an already booked trip.

Has anyone ever done this: we paid for and booked a Dream cruise using both points and a bit of cash for a trip next Feb. We had to borrow points from our next years usage, but now several families that we were going with have need to cancel for various reasons. We can cancel our trip right now, get our cash refunded - the transaction fee. But we would basically lose all our points. They'd before transferred to type of account that we would not be able to use in time.Is it possible to try and sell the Vacation just by possibly transferring another parties info and changing our ressie to their name? Any help would be appreciated.

Never done it with a cruise, but DH and I had a trip that we ended up not being able to go on last year. We basically "rented" the trip. We found someone who wanted the week we had reserved and then once they had paid we just called Member Services and transferred our reservation to their name and arranged ME transportation for them. It was very easy!

Thanks, we aren't 100% sure what we are going to do. But I really would hate having to eat all those points with nothing to show for it.

I doubt you will get any sort of a refund if you cancel. The $95 transaction fee is listed as being non-refundable.

Points committed to a Disney Cruise Line vacation become reclassified as "Reservation Points." They cannot be used for stays at Disney Vacation Club resorts but they could be used to re-book most other non-DVC destinations including cruises and stays at non-DVC hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, etc.)

One thing you could inquire about is upgrading the reservation(s) you will be keeping to a higher cabin class. For instance, if you are booked in an Ocean View on points you might be able to use the additional points from a cancelled reservation to move up to a veranda cabin.

Or if you are sailing out of Florida and need a room for the night either before or after your cruise, you could look at using points for the Poly, GF, Yacht Club or a moderate. It will cost more than a DVC resort stay but at least you are getting some use from the points.

You could try to "rent" the reservation as-is but it will take quite a bit of luck to find a taker for that exact cruise. There may not be sufficient availability for you to re-book on a different sailing. Using points for the Dream has been difficult lately given demand, although you may have some flexibility if you are swapping one Dream cruise for another. You'd have to ask Member Services about that.

Whether you change the name on the existing cruise or re-book different dates (with different name), policy is that the $95 fee will be charged again.

When i called guest services they said the cash minus the 95.00 fee is 100% refundable up to 70 or 75 days out. We considered booking another cruise but we also have a 3 week Hawaii vacation next year so a cruise is out. Our cruise is for presidents week when every one is out of school. All of the ocean view and inside cabins are sold out and they only have a few balconies left( we currently have a balcony cat 4d).So I may be able to sell it as it is a high demand week.

Apparently I misunderstood. If the cabin to be cancelled was paid with a combination of points and cash then yes you can get the cash refunded. The $95 fee is non-refundable and if you have to change the name on the reservation, they will charge another $95 fee.

Never heard much about people re-selling cruises so I don't know what sort of market you will find even for a high demand period. Looked on eBay and there are only 4-5 Disney Cruises listed for auction.

I think you'll want to ask about the name change on the cruise board. I seem to remember hearing that some cruise lines will not let you change the name of the lead passenger.
