Ok, I'm going to Disney next year for my honeymoon. I'm from Louisiana. I'm petrified of flying, so that's out of the question. Does anyone take an AmTrak to Disney? And if so, do you have to rent a car when you get there, or how does that work? Thanks for the help anybody

I'm sure they must do the same in America, but at UK airports they have courses for people phobic of flying - I saw one as part of a TV documentary about phobias and they appear to have a great success rate. Maybe you'd like to contemplate going on one of these courses?

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! To quote the Birnbaum's Unofficial Guide 2005:

"By Train: Amtrak serves the Orlando area twice daily from New York, with various stops made along the way. The trip takes approximately 22 hours and costs from about $130-$350 round-trip, coach."

The guide also offers a phone number, and the website www.amtrak.com, but also states that you can call a travel agent. If you decide to go with a travel agent, remember that Pam at Kingdom Konsultants does a fantastic job, and is a regular on this board! :)

I was just rereading my guide book, saw this, so I thought I would post in your thread! Hope you have a wonderful wedding and a great time at WDW for your honeymoon! (I wanted to go to WDW for my honeymoon, but my DH didn't want to. We did visit Disneyland though...while we were out west!)

Thank you so much!! Lucky for me, my fiance is probably a bigger Disney nut than I am lol. I mentioned something about a cruise, and he freaked out. No we have to go to Disney World! :fork: But I can't blame him, it's always been my first Honeymoon choice. Thanks again

DisneyInMyVeins,

Sorry to bear bad news, but I'm afraid Katrina has really damaged your chances of riding Amtrak's Sunset Limited From New Orleans to Orlando.

Amtrak currently stops that train @ San Antonio, TX and no further east. Service east into Houston will probably resume fairly soon, but The Sunset Limited running east from New Orleans is a Looooooong way off!! Waay next year if then......

CSX', (the RR the Sunset Ltd. operates over east of N.O.), infrastructure along that route was damaged to such a degree that it'll be a Really long time being replaced.

Amtrak's only other option for you is to take "The Crescent" northeast from New Orleans through Atlanta to Raleigh, NC and connect with the Silver Star south to Orlando. Not a viable option IMHO!

I see you're not getting married until Oct of next year, but I doubt The Sunset Ltd will beat you. Better start considering other options I believe.:(

Flying is the way to go - how can you beat a 2-3 hour flight. Not only will you get there quicker but you can get to the parks sooner! When I travel to Disney I need to travel as early and as quickly as possible. My wife and I honeymooned in WDW with our daughter and had a blast. My wife doesn't like to fly either but she takes some dramamine and sleeps through the flight makes it a whole lot easier for everyone!
