Unless there is a slave girl Leia meet and greet, why do I want to hug a Fullerton College student in a Winnie the Pooh costume. I'm not that kind of guy.

Did they take away the standby line?
Unknown. I can't see them having two lines in the middle of Main Street. I would assume eventually Mickey's house will be Genie+ too.

But there is one potential change we aren’t looking forward to at all. Walt Disney World recently added select character meet and greets to Genie+ and Lightning Lane, effectively putting Mickey Mouse behind a pay wall. That makes it much more likely that something similar could happen at Disneyland as well. It’s one thing to watch guests paying extra stream into rides without waiting, but another entirely to explain to a small child why you can’t afford to pay extra for them to see their favorite character while the wealthier child breezes right in.

Not even WDW has a character meet that was FP/LL exclusive. They have only used it in locations that allowed for dual lines. Never on meets outside around the parks.

Everyone in a Disney park is wealthy or paid for by wealthy party members as far as I'm concerned.

I won't shed tears over the supposed "poor family" that also paid 150 dollars for each ticket and 300 dollars for food because the 10 dollar Mickey Mouse line is a breaking point.

I find it odd when places word things this way. Things like Genie+ are wrong IMO and stupidly organized, but the 20 dollars doesn't separate the rich from the poor.

That is 100% not true. Some people save up to go to Disneyland, put money aside all year. A LOT of lower income (esp. non-white) families prioritize Disneyland for their kids to give them a sense of normalcy. That sense of normalcy is SO IMPORTANT for kids, especially when most of your existence is garbage. Granted, when I went as a kid, the tickets were considerably cheaper, but I am sure for a lot of folks stuff hasn't changed. Not to pull this card (but if I must), I grew up in poverty, score 10/10 on the CDC's ACE test, and I still got to go to Disneyland every year. We did not go lavishly. We stayed with relatives and drove to the park. But my mom and grandparents made it a point to have "normal" stuff in my life. Disneyland was one of the only parts of my childhood that wasn't absolutely horrible, and it was because adults in my life made some semblance of normalcy a priority.
