One year at DD at the pin trade shop.people had all their pins out on boards, etc. This mother and daughter.(16) were looking thro them, all of a sudden the girl was going loopy. She had found a pin she had been looking for and traded for it.I was like" Whit the " Some people take it very serious.

Oh hatter, if you only knew, there is an underground market for pin trading where the stakes get pretty high! But seriously, it is amazing how addictive it can be, DW has become an expert at telling the difference between fakes and real ones, and we have been searching for this one pin for about 3 years now to complete her Yeti collection. She could buy it on Ebay, but she wants to do it the old fashion way, i'm almost to the point where I am going to buy it on Ebay and then just sneek it on a pin board when she isn't looking so she can discover it.

The lovely woman im my picture is a Pin trading Queen...got hooked and now is a fully certified pinologist. There have been several great posts here..there are some very competent pin sellers on ebay...dig into the ratings and comments left by folks..we have one we use pretty exclusively he will put together packages for you..Hidden mickeys..cast member pins..specific sets...he does a great job. We buy several hundred for each trip..she loves to trade..always looking for the older..rarer pins..or sets from other parks..Paris..DL...and the like..It is much much cheaper to order alot of trading fodder from ebay than buy them at he parks...and if you get them from a reputable dealer you wont have many issue with pins that seem fake.

hmm not quite the cheap "bit of fun" option i was thinking of in the end then!

Which is exactly why so many people buy pins on eBay that may not be legit. Everyone is trying to get the cheapest pins possible. Every time they offer a pin lanyard as PwP, those pins end up everywhere, as the pins normally end up only costing $3-4 per pin. And some of the sets can be similar if they get broken up (like the Vinylmation multi packs). When it first started off, value didn't matter too much as most every in available was legit, and worth similar. But as fakes have proliferated, it gets rarer and rarer to see unique pins on lanyards. Many of them end up being from the same sets over and over, as many people don't want to trade an $8 pin they just bought, for a $.50 fake on a lanyard.

We do not do it for value. My daughter will trade a pin for one she wants, then trade that pin again later for the pin she traded to get it. There are a few "keepers" that she has gotten. She received a special pin from Scoop on Main Street for using her manners, she received a special Castle pin for being nice at the Castle (not sure how "special" it is though), and a pin a CM asked her to trade for.

There are pin traders that are looking for value, collector items, and sets. We trade for "flavor of the moment" and I do not get involved other than the pin pack mule.
