Meet The World Shuttered

TOKYO (Amusement Business) -- The Meet the World attraction in Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland has been closed to make way for an as-yet-undecided attraction. Meet the World opened in 1983. It incorporated a film and "Audio-Animatronics" figures to show how Japan interacted and developed with the rest of the world throughout history.

Isnt this almost a Japanese version of CoP? Wasnt "Meet the World" supposed to be in the Japan pavilion in Epcot originally? And i heard Buzz Lightyear would replace it....

Yes I think it was ment for the Japan pavilion in Epcot. I think I heard that the building was already built for it at Epcot.:king:

This was indeed supposed to grace the World Showcase in Japan. However, it was placed in Tokyo Disneyland to help bolster the attendance numbers. Rumors were circulating that this attraction would find its way to Epcot for the 25th anniversary of Epcot.

On an off topic note... Ever wonder why the Germany pavillion is so massive??? It was slated to have a Rhine Forest river ride, similiar to Maelstrom. Too bad that this was never built. Dwarves and Princesses... nah... probably would never have worked :p

"Meet the World" was originally intended for the Japan Pavilion in WS at Epcot. One of the main problems which doomed the show for Epcot was how to portray WWII to both Americans and the Japanese. A very touchy subject no matter how you look at it. From what I understand (mind you, I've never seen the show) the Tokyo version glossed over the whole WWII time period. Had this been installed in the WDW version, there probably would have been a huge backlash from many insulted WWII veterans. With no easy solution to the problem, and Epcot running over budget, it was probably an easy decision to drop this attraction from the WS line-up.
As for a replacement attraction, I'm sure there would be a Mt. Fuji ride had the Fuji Co. made a product other than camera film.
